So, after a recent applications to Huddersfield, Leeds City and Leeds College of Art I have had letters through inviting me to interviews!

After my initial thoughts I'm looking for advice on;

  • What to include in my portfolio?
Although i'm fairly specialised into music and promotional photography, I can include images from weddings, events, portraits etc. Would it be best to include a selection of my best shots from each genre that display the skills/ knowledge I have or keep a tight theme throughout the portfolio based around my specialisation?

  • The Interview
Can anyone who has been through the process before give me a heads up on the kind of questions i'm likely to be asked? In my personal statement I was very clear about where my strengths and weakness' are, will the interviewer be basing the discussion around that?

Should I treat it much like I would treat a meeting with a client/commission or in a different way?

  • Physical Portfolio
For the physical portfolio I have two thoughts:

I intend to buy a leathery-hardbound A3, landscape orientated folder which has 24 clear pockets inside, I was considering either of these layouts:

After an initial 'introduction page' I was considering using each double spread for a single image - picture on the left - some informative text on the right. This would allow me to keep the number of images down to around 10-12.

Or, I could just run with the images alone, allowing the interviewer to raise discussion for each one where needed?

This is the folder I was looking at (£26 in my local Rymans!!)

Any advice / guidance / stories is greatly appreciated as Im already nervous as hell lol!:cuckoo:

Portfolio: Use only your strongest images. Try to have at least two "sets". Uni's want to know that you can shoot a series of photographs rather than loads of individuals.

Sometimes polished prints mounted onto board kept in a clean black box can be effective.

Interviews: Influences, career objectives, etc. Try to be as enthusiastic and passionate as possible. Uni's want to achieve the best results as possible and they want people that are going to try hard.

Keep calm, the tutors will know you are nervous but really try to be as keen as possible and let them know how much you love photography.
