I want to unlock my iPhone from O2 ready to sell soon to get iPhone 4. I can do this free with O2 using an online form but have a couple of questions:

When it's unlocked, can I still continue with my monthly contract and use the SIM until I sell it ?

As part of the unlock process can I put any SIM in it, e.g. a T-Mobile one, just to complete the unlocking process in iTunes ?

Any answers, help and advice would be much appreciated.

Yes but even if you sell it you still have to pay the monthly payments untill the contract is up (you probably already know that )

and yes you can use any sim from another provider to complete the unlock process. (Not sure about 3 though as i dont think you can use their sim)

Thanks for the reminder. I've just unlocked our two 3GS phones using the O2 site in preparation for getting a couple of 4s. Although I suspect O2 will have problems meeting demand for a week or 4.

O2 are dealng with upgrades first, then making it available to new customers

Buying direct from Apple isn't much better. 600,000 pre-ordered handsets already, and if you don't already have one ordered from Apple with a delivery date of 24th June, you're looking at July before getting one (Apple store shows ships by 14th July at the moment).

"If you didn’t manage to order an iPhone 4 on the 15th of June because of all the problems Apple had with their online store due to the huge demand, then your iPhone 4 order may end up turning up after the 2nd of July, this does not apply to people who already have a delivery date of the 24th of June.

This was for people who had pre-orderd the iPhone 4 on the 16th and 17th of June here in the UK, now it seems Apple has changed the date again for anyone pre-ordering an iPhone 4 from today onwards, these people will get their iPhone 4 after the 14th of July 2010."
