For people that followed my wingeing and whining over my 7D I can at last confirm that ................. I WAS RIGHT!!!

I sent it off to Canon before Christmas, complaining about the excessive noice at 400 ISO that I was seeing and just general dissatisfaction really. I phoned Canon on Monday and they said the technicians were looking at it and I should have it back by Thursday.

No camera today, so another call. I find out that there was indeed a fault and that I will be getting a NEW 7D!!

Don't know what was wrong with it yet, but when one shows up on the Canon refurb store on eBay, it may be mine!!

They will phone me after lunch to tell me when I should be expecting my new camera!!

I feel good about the fact that some of my moans really were not down to me and my inadequacies!!

Hi Sara

Lets hope that the 7D No2 will be the camera it should be and I bet you are relieved the problems were not down to the operator. Ive followed your trials and tribulations with the 7D and felt your frustrations. I just hope I dont come across a similar situation.

At least if I do have similar problems, I will send it back to Canon pronto now knowing about your experiences.

good luck with the replacement and lets hear about some good news when you get to try it out

Thanks Nigel - I was so relieved that it wasn't me (Well not all of it anyway!!)

I am sure that your 7D will be fine, there's only a very small percentage with problems I would imagine. I hope to have it in time for my hols on the 19th so I can really put it through the mill!!

I did wonder about all the reports of poor performance at low ISO's on 7ds when I had seen such great performance on my own

Only to Spain, to do a couple of last minute things before we move out there permanently in March. That is if the airports are open of course!

Moaning gets you everywhere in this world, just ask my wife...

seriously, well done you got what you deserved a proper working 7D, enjoy it, I hear they are amazing machines.

I hope I get a fully working 7D!!! Fingers crossed ;)

Only??!!!???? Carry your bags, Madam?? :D

I only take my camera equipment with me - By the time you get your kit, my bag will be far too light for you to carry!! Anyways - It's bloody cold in Spain at the moment (Relatively speaking of course) and I've not got any of this fandangled heating over there, just a wood burning stove.

I have just come off the phone to Canon and the ticket from the tech guys say that my camera had a software problem. They were unable to elaborate further. They have a 7D on order for me that will arrive next week. Lets hope this one is OK!!

Mmm, now why would they give me a brand new 7D for a software problem :suspect:

The true test of any manufacturer is not that they never produce duds - that's statistically impossible - it's that they sort the problem out promptly and with a minimum of fuss and hassle. I think what we have here is a demonstration of one of the reasons why Canon is a market leader

There will be numerous parts in the 7D which have been programmed with firmware, some of these might be OTP (One Time Programmable), or maybe it was a processor closely linked to the sensor, in any case I think they decided to give you a new 7D for expediency instead of making you wait while they found the problem.

Glad it's sorted

I also think that with unusual problems in early production the manufacturers like to get the cameras back to see faults for themselves, in case they need to change anything.

My forthcoming 7D might be better because of you Sara :)
