Unusual problem

My first post on here

I've just bought a uv filter, because I've got arthritus in my thumbs I'm finding it really hard to attach and unattach the filter because it's pretty small Does anyone know if there's anything I could add to it, so I've got more grip please ?

Bob that looks perfect for getting the filter off, thanks.

But I've still got the problem of attaching it in the first place. Ideally a 1" collar with threads on both ends would be perfect and give me the extra grip I need, but does such a thing exist ?

If it's causing you that much grief you could just leave it on there (a lot of people do!)!?

A rubber (washing up rather than medical) glove will add plenty of traction for fitting the filter - possibly even too much, making it easier to get it stuck fast if cross threaded. There are also gizmos available from places like Lakeland Plastics to help people with jar lids and the like, that could be an option.

Personally, I no longer use filters for protection, prefering to rely on the lens hood (always fitted if the lens is on the camera) instead. If there's enough sand and dust blowing around (or water), I'm as worried about it finding its way into the guts of the lens through the focus, zoom and aperture rings as I am it hitting the front element.

You could try a step down ring, usually used to put a larger diameter filter on a smaller lens but the opposite principle would work as well, unfortunately they tend to be only about twice the thickness of a filter but it might suffice or you could use a couple with a dab of thread lock to stop them coming unscrewed.
