hello,i am using an i mac which has done me proud!i have now moved to a nikon d850,when i tried to download nikon capture it said the os was not high enough.the os i am using is osx 10.6.8.my question is,can i upgrade my software far enough?and if i can how do i go about it?i will be using an external drive for storing photos.many thanks in advance.

Whether or not you can upgrade will depend on the age and spec of the iMac.

You can upgrade by visiting the App Store and click Updates.

OS 10.6.8 is a variant of Snow Leopard.

OS 10.7 was known as Lion and was introduced in 2011
OS 10.8 was known as Mountain Lion in 2012
OS 10.9 is Mavericks in 2013
OS 10.10 is Yosemite in 2014
OS 10.11 is El Capitain in 2015
OS 10.12 is Sierra in 2016
OS 10.13 is High Sierra and launched in 2017
OS 10.14 is expected later this year and is known as Mojave.

You may find that your mac is too old to upgrade to the latest version, but there may be an interim operating system that the Nikon software will work with. But otherwise it may be other software or a new computer.

I'd buy a newer Mac if I were you.

You'll need a good machine to cope with the file sizes.

What are the specs of it ?
