with my specification............is it possible for me to buy a better/faster processor and fit it myself for not too much money?

If it is I would need an idiots guide on how to and what I should be buying.

providing its a socket LGA775 processor you could (if your motherboard supports it) fit a core2 quad..

seems you have the E4300 which is a LGA775.. what dell is it out of interest?
