Upgrading my kit

OK, after some good feedback from the local mums and dads after my shoot at the nursery last week: three have already asked my to shoot their kids :D (pun intended), hubby decided it was time I upgraded my kit.

This is what I have at the moment:

Canon EOS 1000D
18-55 kitlens (which is OK, though not that fast)
55-250 telezoom (not that happy about it, and I don't really use it, as I have little or no need for telezoom lenses)
50 mm prime lens (really happy about that one)

So, I'm really trying to decide what to upgrade. Would it be best to think about a new body (camera that is :p, dumb sense of humour today) or keep the 1000D and look at a really good new lens (I'm sort of liking the 24-70 f/2.8or the 17-55 f/2.8). But does it make any sense investing in a 1.000 euro lens when you have a 350 euro camera?

Any advice please!!!!!!!

the 1000D will see you good for a while yet. No point getting a new camera without getting good glass first.

the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS is a fantastic lens, i have a friend who uses it for weddings and some of his shots are incredible.

If you can afford it, go for this - you won't regret it.

Definately second the above posts in all respects.

Better to upgrade your lens at this stage, the 1000D will be a different camera with better glass. The 17-55 EF-S 2.8 IS is a fantastic lens and will sing on your camera.

The main problem is it gets addictive upgrading kit and costs a fortune...

I would buy the 24-70 F2.8 which will help with lower light situations and maybe some flash gear..

Build up some cash to buy pro gear later...

If you really want to splash out Canon 5d mkii £1700 or nikon equivalent...

Thanks! It's sort of confirming what I already assumed.

Just one last question. When you speak about flash gear. I have the 430 Speedlite (forgot to mention it). Should I consider upgrading my flash instead of lens, or doesn't it make that much difference?

No, use your 430 as fill in flash..

Later you could look into studio lights but thats another story...
Check out the talk lighting section...

Stick to natural light to start a lot easier...
