Beginner Uploading images on here

I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong but the images I upload to this site lose some detail. I have tried numerous experiements including opening a flikr account, they look fine on there even when uploaded there at 1024px and under 500kb but once linked to here they are not. Any ideas? Thankyou.

They probably suffer from compression to fit the forum. Many folk will click an image they like to see it on Flickr.

I think I've discovered sorted the uploading issue by exporting to jpg using lanczos 3 instead of bilinear. I have no idea what it all means but it seems to of sorted the issue.

Simple answer is to get a free flickr account, upload to there, and link the photos using the BBCode that flickr provides.

I tried that and the problem was still there but I've resolved it by changing the default export to jpeg settings on affinity photo.
