I have a couple of cheapy USB card readers that appear to be total utter carp. Can anyone recommend a decent quality card reader that offers good speed and reliability?

Cheers

Kingston.

yes I can
Lexar professional USB3 Dual Slot Reader as below

Reason why i recommend it is because the card goes in a long way before connection to the pin contact, therefore lines up properly and no bent pins. i actually have two why i don't know

Some card reader pins bend pins just because they have a short entry point and the pins get bent when the card is not lined up properly. Something to be careful of, can't happen with the lexar

Before you buy the sandisk look at this review, about the worst product of this type according to the reviewer. half way through the report the pins got bent, avoid like the plague, says it is a piece of Junk. not my review either

Note how far the card does not go into the reader compared to the Lexar

Oh, but it matches my desk/computer nicely

do what you think is ok for you but belive me you wish you hadn't. Remember if a memory card does not go in quite a way before hitting the pins you will be in trouble

Been through three of the Lexar ones over the years.. one day they just stop working for no apprent reason :( Had a kingston one for a long time now and works perfectly ..

i have a couple of kingston ones that do sd and micro sd, blue and black and they work well, and fast

the newer model is actually less speced

Another vote for Lexar - I use the multi stacked x4 hub version.

Its pricey but the individual readers can be used independently, or after a heavy days shoot you can use the hub to download from multiple sources. very fast, easy and as said, unlikely to bend the pins on the CF.

I use the previous version, which is substantially better built and have had no issues at all...and the stand on the new one is not as good either.

My choice is the Lexar.
It was mine too but not the best performer if what they say is right ?
I have a Delkin reader aswell that does the job fine TBH.
