I would like to use 2 screens for editing but my PC only has one monitor socket.
Do i/can i buy a 2 into 1 adapter or is there more to it?

I must explain that i am a complete numpty when it come to computers.

Many thanks.

If I were you I'd look at upgrading my graphics card to one which has two outputs. From the little research I did a while back the USB adaptors to run 2nd monitors don't always support large screens and I'm not sure if they'll support individual colour profiles so you might have trouble calibrating your second monitor.

You can either buy another graphics card or buy a new 2 head card.

Windows will pick up a second card automatically and I believe you can extend the desktop across both monitors.

2 head cards are made by a few manufacturers, but Matrox seem to be the most popular. I run a Matrox Parhelia which gives me a resolution of 1975 x something I can't remember (!) on 2 monitors. I then extend my desktop across both (a setting on the driver) to give me huge working area.

Works really well - I cant imagine using a single monitor for editing again.

Sounds interesting. Does it let you set different colour profiles for each monitor?

a few? all manufacturers offer 2 or more output cards these days, with ati and nvidia (under various licenced companies) being the most popular. matrox fell out of the mainstream some time ago in my opinion.

I'm even more confused now:lol:

I don't know what graphics card i have. If i just took it to "the man" in the shop, what graphics card would you suggest?

After my holiday in January i do intend to buy a new tower unit as this one is quite slow at times.
