You don't. If you intend to blend then you'll need to bracket exposures. Either expose for the darker area and then do a few shots with incremental under exposure to recover the brighter area or expose for the brighter area and do a few shots with incremental over exposure to recover the darker area.
Whatever you do... if it's a landscape, alter the shutter speed... not the aperture, as differences in depth of field will be apparent when you try and merge them.
