This is a strange one to me.

My Tamron 70-300 VC works brilliantly on my Nikon D610, with the VC almost instant. But when mounted on my older DX D300, the VC just doesnt work. I kept swapping bodies just
to be sure it wasn't a one off, but sure enough, the problem remained.

I thought the engineering marvel of stabilised lenses was the fact that the magic is in the lens, and the body has little to do with the Tamron's VC function ..or am I wrong ?

Whichever way it works, anyone have an idea why it works on one body and not the other ? Perhaps its D300 at fault
 
Surely if they were dirty, the lens would not relay info or AF properly ?
 
Ok - will definately try that. Luckily i have some swabs and sensor cleaner here, so we'll see what happens

If this dosent help, what would be the next step .. assuming its a D300 problem and not the lens, as the lens works 100% on the 610

The D300, nowadays, is very old compare to the D610. If the lens is fine on the
later one…maybe the D300 won't support VR??? (VR is something I never use!)

I understand that the D300 lens contacts should be cleaned, right?
 
Ok, i've just cleaned the contacts on the D300, and now the VC is kicking in properly, so thanks andy

One thing, although VC works as it should now, i hear the VC motor whirring till i take the shot ( i use back button focus ) ... is that normal ?

Yes, perfectly normal.

Then it looks like a result. I should clean my contacts more often though :whistle:
 
Sensor cleaner is ok but so is a good old pencil eraser

Glad you got it sorted

No i meant the sensor needed cleaning as well. It was something i'd been meaning to do for a few months, having seen dust spots

Oh I see! Well, I hope you didn't use a pencil eraser? ;)
 
No Jim, not a pencil eraser - as said, i dont have any here, but i did have an office type eraser. Thankfully :naughty:
