I just bought one for my D40x so can tell you if you can wait that long.

I read that because the D40X wasn't designed with the facility for the vertical shutter release button it can only be controlled by treating it as a remote controlled shutter release. Which means you will have to go into the menu everytime you want to switch between normal and vertical grip buttons.

This isn't too much of a problem for me as I am really buying it for the better grip (as my hands are too big for the D40x) and also the longer battery life. My battery died on me recently on holiday and I know the pain not being able to take photos when you spot a good opportunity. :'(

yeah i can wait ;-)

look forward to the update

how much is a normal battery?

also i wouldn't mind a normal remote, can you recommend one?

You can buy batteries for as little as £6 on eBay or 7dayshop, but they won't be genuine Nikon ones, and so will not last as long.

This is the one I bought - only bought it 2 days ago from HK so will take some time to arrive.

I've been looking into it for sometime and settled on that one because its the cheapest grip with shutter release + 2 decent batteries combo I could find on the net. The batteries are made in Japan which gives me a bit more confidence as well.

I also like the look of the grip and seems to be pretty well built. I'll post some pics of mine later and a short review once I've been out with it.

You can get 3rd party for about £2 delivered, I got one from a seller called Greenlife.

Works great.

thanks

are they all the same in features, just a release button remote?

any other special features found on others?

Can anyone recommend a half decent quality generic vertical grip for the Nikon D300?
