I've just been piecing together the clips I shot at a Steam weekend, the total time being about 33 mins. I left the PC processing the file as an HD Movie, as I estimated it would take over an hour and came back 90 minutes later to find it had failed saying it couldn't find some files, all the clips were loaded so I don't see that as a problem.

Is there a limit to the size of file it can handle? This is the longest I have done with Windows Movie Maker. I could split it into two parts I guess, but would prefer just one. Any suggestions welcomed.

Try running it again and take a screenshot if it errors again.

Also, what version of Windows and movie maker are you running.

Exactly how many files and what is the total size of the final file?

I'm running Windows 7 32 bit with 3GB memory and loads of drive space, it's Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 (Build 15.4.3502.0922) It didn't even partially create the final file so no idea what size it would have been. About 50 clips whose size total about 11GB as they came out of the camera. The length of the movie is 33minutes and runs fine inside Movie Maker.

I've spoken to my bro-in-law that uses it a lot, he's suggested that you first try and and put the first 2 videos together first, see if that works.

I've used to create a video from several clips in the past, but nothing of this size, so it would seem that splitting it into two or three individual parts is the only option :(

I guess I'll have to sort out a Wurlitzer and organist for the Intermission :D

What filesystem was it trying to write the file to?
It probably (well, it used to around 5 years ago) writes a temporary file as it goes along, then renames this to the final output.
Depending on your filesystem, you might be limited to a total filesize of 2GB or less.
