I have seen a lot of so called 'universal' viewfinders for Nikons, but none of them look like they will adapt to a camera with a battery pack attached to it. They don't seem to have enough adjustment in the vertical plane for the lower mount hole.
Do you know of one that works for sure (because you have used it)?

There are many solutions… and many Nikon cameras.
You don't specify your model and your profile is not accessible.

I can not help you.

For a Nikon D500 with a battery pack. It would fit many different models though with a pack installed. I'd like to have it fit my D5, D3s, and D810 as well.

Please define 'universal' viewfinders for Nikons.

Universal simply means they will fit many different models of camera by utilizing a sliding adjustable mount system.

will fit many different models of camera

The available options are of two types:
— the screw type and
— slide on type.

As I see it, all the given models are of the screw type
and are all the same size.

Wait a minute…

D5, D3s, D810D… D810D? do you mean really "D"?

I understand such a question coming from a beginner
but from someone with such an arsenal?

I think the RFM strategy would be of great assistance
and benefit in your case.

There are models that use an adhesive LCD protector, but those seem to fail quickly as the protector comes away from the LCD screen.

RFM stands for

  • Recency - How recently did the customer purchase?
  • Frequency - How often do they purchase?
  • Monetary Value - How much do they spend?
I don't see how customer value relates to this, but thanks anyways.
I was hoping someone with firsthand knowledge would know from experience what one will fit, not just search the net, I did that already.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by. I suppose I'll just buy the closest one and modify it to fit by making a new adjustable bracket for it.

From the beginning, I thought we were talking "view finders",
now I see you meant LCD screen… a very different subject.

The camera has the LCD screen on it already, this is to make it easier to see to shoot video. I do not need an LCD screen. lol
They are sold as viewfinders on Amazon and other sites that sell such things.

Does not interfere with anything.
Oh, I see this is the stick on type that fails often, I was asking about the mechanical mount type. I'll just build a longer mount plate slide.
