Hello , can anyone assist please , If you read the comments below :rules:

I am looking for a Volunteer to host some photos for our Holiday competition :help:

Quite straight forward , so if you can help , that would be great :D

For those attending the " HOLIDAY "

I will be arranging a competition

With trophy's

After our week away each photographer will be allowed to enter 5 images

I will then ask for a volunteer , A TP forum member to host the images onto the forum

The volunteer will not disclose who entered the images

The TP forum members can then vote who has the best panel of 5 , and then a single best overall image from all entered

Wooo fun or what

I can do that. Would be nice if all the images arrived processed and sized to go. That way nothing done in the upload should affect the quality at all.

Always happy to help!

Thanks for your kind offer duly accepted :D

will be in contact after the holiday

Darren ,

Can you lease let me know if hosting is still OK with you as we have another Volunteer, see below ;)

I have my five shots selected and ready to go. I just need to know where to send them.

If nobody else minds, I'm happy to host the entries, and I'll make one post in the thread per person to include their five submissions. All it needs is for everyone to email me their images, stripped of EXIF data, and resized to fit within 800x800 pixels and I'll host and post them unaltered. I'd propose no borders of any kind, just to maintain a level playing field on presentation. If people want to watermark their work then I guess that's a personal choice, but obviously the watermark should not identify the person.

I think the only downside to having me host and post is that I will get to see the other entries before posting all four sets, including my own, although I'm not sure what difference that would make. My five are selected and resized ready to go, and I'm not planning on changing my choices.

So, is everyone happy with that proposal?

Tim

Well if Darren is happy to host then that rules out even the slightest risk of impropriety, so I'm happy to use Darren's services if he's still OK with that. If not then my offer to host/post still stands.

If Dave is judging the entries then it makes sense for him not to be involved in receiving them directly from the four of us and hosting, posting and judging. Better he just gets to see the four sets anonymously, I think.

More than happy to put these on the web.

The standard mac galleries can pick up and show all the exif data if that's useful to you. I'll work out which mail addy I need to use and post back in a bit.

If any of the other host options just work better for you, I'll not be in the least offended. As long as the pics go up, it's all good. ;)

We might have two ends of the stick here. I wasn't saying it will show the exif, just that I can if it's prefereable.

If data or even just exposure details give away too much then no need to have it. :)

Well of the four of us, one was using Nikon kit only, one a 5D2 only, one a 50D only and one a selection of Canon bodies, so it would not be rocket science to connect each set of photos to the respective photographers if the EXIF was preserved. I think lens choices would also pretty much pin down the photos to individuals, so all in all I think it would be fairest to strip EXIF altogether and preserve the mystery. I guess once the competition is completed then EXIF data could be made known, if anyone is interested enough to know. :)

Now that's a good idea, very easy to start off without and then add some detail in later.

Darren, I think that in the interests of ultimate fairness it would be great if you could act as host for the images. All we need now is a suitable email address to which we can send our five files each (X 4 contestants).

Allen, I'm a bit confused about whether the judging is to be by Dave (Starrider) alone or opened up to forum members. You've said one thing in the main holiday thread but something else in this thread. Obviously Darren needs to know where he is to post the four sets of images once he has them all. Is it to be back in the holiday thread, in a new thread in the competitions forum with some sort of poll, or something else? Bear in mind you wanted to have a winner for the best set of five and a separate winner for best shot overall, so if that's to be decided by forum voting as well then things will be a little more complex, with two polls required.

Tim

As its only a bit of fun and not a national competition it best the let Dave
( Starrider ) be the judge

And get Darren to post the 4 sets of images on the end of the holiday thread

Hi Darren

Can we have a email address to send our images to please ?

Thanks

Allen

Hello, Sorry folks.

The web addy is lightfall.co.uk and the mail addy is in the name of darren. I'm sure you'll put that together OK. :)

I think you should decide on what size you want the hosted images to be and also what pixel and file size you want to send to me. There is always some amount of change that gets applied to an image file getting uploaded to the web but if all the images start from the same point, it's even all over.

Looking forward to seeing them all too. :)

Darren, the forum limit for pixel dimensions is 800x800 pixels. I suggest we stick to that guideline. Anything larger will be a big no-no and anything smaller will make it less easy to see the detail and clarity in the images.

As for file size in KB, there are no restrictions on files hosted outside the forum, but there is a 200KB limit for images hosted in the forum gallery. So, while we might be able to go a little beyond 200KB per file, we should probably not go too mad, in consideration of those on slow connections and/or limited data plans. Since I don't have any software that will allow me to output a file to exactly 200KB, or any other precise number, I suggest we aim for 200KB but allow a little leeway beyond that. Perhaps 250KB as a hard upper limit.

My 5 WINNING photos sent to Darren  for hosting :D

and Darren has them ,

All received safe and sound, ta. :)

I'll take my chances. They are what they are. I did think I might simply include five pictures of totty from the motocross, which I'm sure would be right up Dave's alley, but I didn't think that would be fair on the rest of you, so hardly any totty shots from me. ;)

As soon as all entries are up,PM me with location details..

Dave , they will be added to the end of the holiday thread by Darren ;)

Hi Darren , I have extended the deadline to Sunday 4th July midnight , Hope it OK with you

I don't think that Jason is on this thread, but if he is to take part then I guess we need Dave not to have peeked at Jason's Flickr stream.

Opps

I ment Darren

Darren

You should now have all 4 sets of entry's :D

So if you can post then on the Holiday thread for Dave ( Starrider ) to judge that would be great

Many thanks for hosting the images for us

Allen, I have yours, Tim's and now Chris' all ready to rock but No forth set yet.

OK , I will chase up lizardman , thanks

Well they are all in the thread, so off you go. I've certainly enjoyed them and it will be interesting to see how they are "judged".

Cheers Darren

No all we need is for Dave to get out of bed
