WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Could have been worse - you could have got it fully assembled...

WAMT the rain. And it's not just any rain. It's that really wet watery rain.
Perhaps ring up the met office and complain?

If they're not going to provide the right type of rain they should be told off!

Modern tech is a constant annoyance to me. I've had almost endless Virgin media and "smart" device issues which affected my "smart" doorbell, bulbs and CCTV cameras and access to some on line sites and even email. Virgin came and hopefully sorted it (until the next time it happens) and we ended up with a new network address and password and all our "smart" devices had to be connected to the new network address. The CCTV camera system was the worst but eventually I managed it after receiving some instructions from the guy who installed it but then the doorbell and bulbs stopped working again and refused to accept the password which I knew was correct and which was entered correctly. Using the forgot password option and entering the same password which I knew was always correct brought them back to life.

I don't know how many hours of my time have been spent wrestling with this stuff but I do think it should all work a bit more easily and a lot more reliably.

So I sent a rather strong, forthright email to the Chief Executive of the Met Office, and quite frankly their response was absolutely appalling and seems to absolve themselves from all liability. “Because rain is classed as an act of God we therefore cannot be held responsible for it, or its consistency.” It beggars belief that a company of such renown and standing is allowed to behave in this manner.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell us about the evils of religion, and how the rain wouldn't be so wet if people didn't insist on the existence of 'god'.

;)

Which god do we blame though? And by which name? Or is it a goddess?

WAMT? Neighbour's clematis all over my fence, causing it to lean. They seem to have "trained" it through my trellis!!! Not any more it isn't!! Build your own trellis! My trellis was in immediate danger of being pulled over by the weight, so I snipped the "loops" of branches that were through and back out, effectively pulling my fence over! The clematis had no other visible support on their side, other than a "training wire" affixed to my fence with hooks (no permission given or asked for!). The droopy clematis has prompted a visit from the neighbour, who accused me of criminal damage. An explanation of the law and the facts seems to have quietened her!

Just more Chinese tat from Amazon.

I read the page and it fitted my needs and it arrived on time too but when I tested it it didn't meet their stated spec. Luckily Amazon don't want it back so I don't have to pack it up and take it to the post office, I can just bin it, but they've still wasted my time.

Which begs the question. why the hell do you buy it?

If you'd read my post you'd know the spec matched what I wanted. The fact that under test the product doesn't live up to the spec is the problem not my decision making.

I spent hours looking yesterday and saw the same thing on sale all over the place at different prices but with the same picture. Anything with a different picture still probably also comes from China. Often you can't easily find a quality thing no matter where it's made, in many cases good luck finding UK or Europe made products and "Made In" is not often a part of the listing plus the price you pay is often no indicator.

Many people wont notice if a product isn't what it claims to be but very often I do and thankfully I noticed before wasting my time installing it so I suppose the positive is that I've saved a bit of time as if I'd used it I'd have had to fault find and waste time later.

But your post implies that everything you buy from Amazon is Chinese tat.

I don't know how you can think that.

Lets make this the last time as you've now made two ill-conceived off the mark posts which I've replied to only out of politeness. Any more like those and you'll have wasted more of my time than my latest buy ;) :D

Chenglish instructions and assembly drawings that look like those joke tech drawings that change from one end of the structure to the other (eternal staircase etc!). I am pleased to say, that all the parts and fixings were in the box but the suggestion that two people MAY be needed, should read mandatory, or risk being sheared from ear to foot by razor sharp edges, waving in the breeze! I should have realised when a pair of gloves were included! A plastic helmet would have helped too! "Should take a competent person a couple of hours and a power screwdiver may also help"! Six hours in for two techies and we will finish in the morning, after six hours so far! After seeing the quality, materials and finish, I will not be buying a Chinese car any time soon! Cheap as chips though! :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

Wife going to hairdresser, what should be a 15 minute journey. I offered to go with her, drop her off and then pick her up. She wanted to go alone. She has phoned me 3 times to tell me she cannot find the place, her satnav isn't working. She has no sense of direction and cannot read maps, I sometimes wonder if she knows her left from her right. She has got there, the 15 minute journey has taken 45 minutes.

Purchased a TABLE AND CHAIRS from Amazon the other day. Mrs F was putting them together yesterday. One of the side pieces of one of the chairs turned out to have no holes to feed the screws through.

And yes @woof woof, it was made in China! :ROFLMAO:

I received something the other day to replace the tat I got earlier, it's made in China and it works. I'd rather stuff of acceptable quality was made locally as we tend to at least try and be honest and compliant and for environmental reasons too (does anyone really believe that shutting down all our industry and importing everything from China helps the environment?) but that's out of our control. I would like to see more QC and compliance checking on incomming stuff as binning stuff or sending it back and trying again is just so frustrating.

The table and chairs were ordered Wednesday and arrived Thursday, so hopefully, the replacement part is in the UK and will be quick. It's a good thing we only need one chair lol

Breakdown recovery, Just got my motorhome back from the garage, some one rear-ended me in Rouen, set off today for a trip up the Spey valley then back along Deeside, got about 30 miles down the road and the steering got really heavy suddenly. Managed to pull of the road stop, couldn't see anything wrong but on starting the engine got a real whining noise hadn't noticed it when I pulled of the road but then I was probably concentrating on getting off and stopped, think it's the power steering. Now while that was annoying enough it's not as near as the so far 8 hours I've waited for the recovery vehicle, lets see if they make this deadline. First it was 60-90 minutes which would have been around 1pm then 4pm, then 6pm now 9pm. Oh well at least I'm only a mile outside a little coastal town and I'm in the motorhome and not the car, so have access to coffee and tv.

Trying to leave O2 - round and round in ****ing circles, the website/app simply will not let you start your 30 days notice. I finally decide to call and listen to the nonsense trying to get me to stay and I get "our phone lines are closed right now" "we're open from 08:00 to 21:00" Me looks at watch, it's 20:30.

I'll try again tomorrow.

I used the online chat. Cancelled one SIM and was offered a reduced rate for a 2 year contract on the other. Took about half an hour.

Wouldn't let me do that, said I had to phone them so I did. (
I'm out of contract so there should be no issues, just have to start the notice period and pay the final bill.

Curious, I wonder why.

No idea m8, since you're not chatting with a human being you can't ask why.

Driving down a road today I have driven thousands of times and a rickety fence caught my eye, I thought that will make a great photo, the morning sun shines right down that road and I mentally made a note to park the car with the hazards on and get in front of the car and set up to photograph it, Driving back in the opposite direction I could not find it. I went out again down the same road and back and again could not find it. Its either an elusive fence or I imagined it. Whichever scenario is the correct version its annoying. It was beautiful.

A follow up from yesterday. Well the recovery driver finally arrived at 10pm after they decided to send him to a postcode instead of telling him I was on the A98 just east of Portsoy. It was the power steering, something called the crankshaft pulley.

Every morning, at about 4.45, a bunch of wood pigeons in the trees opposite communicate with each other. They are really loud so I have to close the windows. It goes on for about 30 minutes.
