Water mark?

I see quite a number of photographers place 'water marks' on their photos, which I assume is done to protect copyright.

How is this done please?

You can also download gimp which is a free prog,you can use that to make them as well.

Also thanks to you hypnotic. Must confess I tend to forget about Google now I use this site. The thing about TP is though that you tend to get people's thoughts on the subject matter as well as the straight facts.

I made mine in GIMP, then saved it as a .psd file so you can use it in Aperture/Lightroom etc.

It's easily done in photoshop go to YouTube type in watermark in photoshop for tutorial that's how I learned

Just an added point. You say "to protect copyright". You might already know, but you don't actually have to display copyright on your photo (in the UK law) to have copyright over it. The water mark is more a deterrent and something to make the image more difficult to just copy with a few clicks.

Yes, thanks for that Will. I should have said it is more to stop someone copying the photos.

Having said that I don't know anyone in their right mind who would want to copy my photos! :lol:
