Hi

I thought it might be a good idea to get together some locations of waterfall locations. I have created a google map (link below) so we can all add locations of waterfalls in (and out of) the UK.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=208545037201556839310.0004bfdeb4d1699b26d98

NB - you will need to be logged into Google to add a location I'm afraid. I've started it off with one in the south west, will add more as I pin point their locations

Just added Rickford. By the way, there are two at Cheddar, one just 50 metres down from Cox's Mill. Re the comment on the Marks and Spencer one - most waterfalls are man-made !

Nice one, what a good idea Mark. Just added the only waterfall in Dorset that I`m aware of.

Ah that's true, I forgot about that one. Grew up in Cheddar but rarely have time for photography when I go back to visit.
:)

Just added Pistyll Rhaedr, well worth a visit - very spectacular. Not only is it an amazing waterfall, you will have to go a long way to get better ham, egg and chips from the cafe next to the falls.

It's worth taking a walk to the top of the falls and enjoying the view as the water drops vertically - not too close though!

More details from the link below.

Here's a sample of what you'll see......

If you want spectacular waterfalls visit the Brecon Beacons and waterfall country. Two fantastic gorge walks with amazing waterfalls visit my website to see some images - www.swgphotos.co.uk The area is known as waterfall country. Amazing when in full flood after heavy rain.

As the waterfall faces roughly East, I would say that morning is best.

Chris

assuming you want sunlight on it - afternoon and evening also work quite well for longer exposure shots where you generally want less light - its gets quite busy, so early and late are better than middle of the day

Have you tried Ystadfellte just south of Brecon?
Four waterfalls on this great walk with last you can walk under!

Not strictly a natural waterfall as such but what about the Cascade at Chatsworth House?

That would be Sgwd Y Eira(y) Its an absolutely stunning waterfall and I would highly recommend it as a day out. It's a bit of a walk though but it is well worth the effort.

I've added the only one I know anywhere near me. It's at the end of Ecclesbourne Glen and runs on to the beach. It's a bit of a trek along the beach and you have to be careful with the tides.

It's got the added benefit of being able to get behind the waterfall and shoot through it.

I can only agree having had the luck of living near the national park. There are lots and lots of waterfalls in the area and the moss and vine covered trees around them make it even more unforgettable!

maps looks pretty good at the moment, any more?

I added a couple up North for you

Eas a' Chual Aluinn
Britain's highest waterfall with a drop of 658ft. It's a six mile trudge across boggy ground from the road south of Kylesku. Alternatively, a boat-trip runs from the Kylesku Hotel pier along Loch Beag to where the falls are visible.

Falls of Glomach
It's a five mile walk from the Dorusduain car park to reach the Falls of Glomach, one of Britain's highest and most impressive waterfalls with a drop of 370ft

Does anyone know of any waterfalls with access to the pool below ? I'm looking for a possible model shoot come summertime . Also Yorkshireish would be good .

Scaleber Force near Settle would fit the bill. Whilst I was there shooting it there was a chap there with a model who was draping herself across the rocks. She looked bloody frozen!!

Thanks for that , it looks like it could fit the bill :)

No worries, that shot was taken in August, just to give you an idea of what the water flow is in summer, I'd imagine it'll be a bit heavier at this time of year. There's also West Burton Falls but they're more popular and therefore busier (there were kids swimming in and around the waterfall when I was there).

Lots of waterfalls around North Wales, I'll add more when I get chance but for now I've added Pistyll Cain & Pistyll Rhaeadr in the Coed Y Brenin forest:

Simon

Pistyll Rhaeadr

Pistyll Cain

actually its not even England's , the highest above ground waterfall in England is Cautley spout near Sedbergh, while Gaping Gill near Ingleton falls a greater total distance, but some of it is into a pothole. However both of these are more a series of drops, high force is the longest single drop in England -while Cauldron Snout is the longest waterfall in England in linear distance but not total drop.

Pystyll Raeder is often thought to be highest in England and Wales (and is the 2nd highest single drop) , but actually the Devils appendix near Cwm idal (which is the highest single drop), and Pistyll y lyn (both in wales) are higher, while the highest in the UK is Eas a' Chual Aluinn in scotland
