This weekend has really done me in :|

Yesterday, I had a couple of things I wanted to do in doors, but felt I had to go and take advantage of the sunshine. Because I had other tasks on my mind, I didn't take a single half decent photo and didn't have the patience for subjects to reposition themselves, or seek another myself.

Today, I was well up for it and went off believing the sun was going to be out for a while ... it wasn't. I have to use public transport and just made do with an uniteresting grey stroll along the river. I saw a heron as usual, but it was too dull to get a decent pic.

Soon after I got in, the sky cleared, but again, I have other things to do and places to go... not happy :(

Rant over :D

Why let the weather dictate what you do and don't do? I used to think the same until my course tutor reminded me if I was shooting a wedding would I go home if the weather turned out bad or would I have to adapt and overcome?

Conditions are very rarely perfect.

Maybe you are Cursed:lol:

It's always nice to get shots of steam locos with the white smoke against a blue sky, but the skies are invariably light grey, doesn't stop me shooting the locos though, you just have to make the best of it.

Weather hasnt been brilliant round here, but decided for the sake of my sanity to get out and take some pics any way.

Fishing Boat at rest by spg_mutts, on Flickr

Chance to have a play with the ND grad on the S5.

Who needs sun! Shame about the filter's colour cast, maybe ypou could change it's colour in psot to match the rest of the clouds lower down?

Was just having a play, the ND grad is a very old Cokin, like 18yrs old!!
The colour is a lot different on the S5 compared to my old D80.
Hoping to replace my slot in filters with Hi-tech's at somepoint.

Interesting! From a sports and creative lighting point of view, the last thing that I want is blazing sunshine. At the beginning and end of the day it's good to have, but it's a nightmare for full control towards midday! :)

On the plus side, think about all those gorgeous snow shots when the white stuff turns up!!

(Of course then there'll be loads of "how do I expose for the snow") threads.....

One thing I know I need to learn, is how to adapt and be more open minded. If I go out with the intention of taking pictures, it's usually with a subject in mind.

I also need to know whether it's the combination of a D200 with a Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 that is limiting my ability to take good birdie photos in grey weather, or is it my technique; although I do have a tripod, I rarely ventured out with it and upping the ISO beyond 400 doesn't produce good results for me.
I have considered tryng to get a 2nd hand 1.4TC, but reading that I'd lose a stop of light makes me wonder if it's worthwhile

I woke up at 6:45am to take the dog out and get some sunrise shots.

It's a good job I didn't take the camera with me as it would probably have been blown out of my hands. Gale force winds here!
