The possibility has arisen for me to exibit a few prints in the garden of a local deli. I'm keen, but need to source weatherproof prints from somewhere.

Obviously I don't want to relinquish aesthitics in the name of weatherproofing; so laminated prints are out really unless anyone can point me in the direction of some that look really nice.

Was thinking Canvas before the outdoor idea was sprung on me; can anyone recommend any suppliers of weatherproof canvas prints? How are normal Canvas prints likely to stand up to the elements? Perhaps if they were treated to a good coat of lacquer..

Any ideas much appreciated

Would it not be best to make a frame so the pictures can be mounted then a piece of clear perspex fitted across the front?? (think out door menu/notice board sort of thing just nicer) Atleast that way you can open it to change pictures around as you see fit, it will also keep the pictures safer inside rather than someone deciding to walk off with one?

I had some lustre A4 prints done by DSCL and they were outdoor in rain and frost for about 2 weeks and were absolutely fine.

Worked really well.

Thanks for the replies

pitkin: I hadn't considered waterproof frames; while a good idea ultimately I think the cost would probably prove prohibitive.. will look into it a bit more though. Also hadn't considered the theft aspect; which could potentially be a problem - appreciate the point being raised.

Hodders - Thanks for the recommendation; I'll look into it. My only reservation would be that the'll probably have to be outside for a lot longer than two weeks. How did you mount yours, or were they displayed naked?

Just done a bit of googling and turned up these weatherproof "snap frames" which could work and don't seem grotesquely expensive.

Given that they're only available in ISO paper sizes I'd no doubt have to go bigger and have a backing / border round the print. Was thinking perhaps an A2 frame (23.4x16.5") housing an 18x12" print, perhaps. Would give room underneath for a caption and contact details, too :)

Do people think these aluminium frames look presentable enough to display work in?

I've seen weatherproof canvases for sale at garden centres so they exist. These were pre-printed though so not sure where you can go to get your own images produced on them. What about acrylic - often these are used as splashbacks in kitchen/ bathroom environments so must have an element of resilience to them.

Naked - as nature intended !

You would do well considering acrylic... it's not great for every image but if it suits, it adds a depth and lustre to it you can't get with paper, the image can be sealed and will last for a considerably time.
More expensive, but presentation is everything if you want your image to be seen in the best light.
