Ok I have an idea and would like to create a website for local sports clubs to show thier latest news to a bigger (sports base) audiance. As a starting point I like the look of this layout.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/

1:Can this be simplified, (it would need to be easy to update).

2:It will be funded by myself to start with, so what are the costs.:gag:

I am looking at this to become a tool, to network with these clubs take photos and sell back to the parents to fund the site.

Thanks in advance
Ken

Most of what you want can be done with Wordpress, however, the selling bit might be a bit complex (and time heavy) for Wordpress to handle efficiently, so it might be that you link to a seperate gallery for the sales side of things,...

If you could do some of the work yourself (uploading content, images etc) that would minimise the cost, or if not, then obviously it'd be more to do everything...

Hi Matt
Thanks for the reply, Time and knowledge is lacking here. As it would be nice to get this going quite soon. I will have a look at wordpress in the mean time.
If you can give me an idea of cost that would be helpfull (PM me if you like) It may just kill the idea:lol: and I was thinking of using Jalbum for the sales part.

Cheers

Ken

I would be happy to discuss this with you and provide a quotation. If the moderators permit, I will leave my wedding photography email address in order to let you contact me

I think what Richard meant to do was to give you advice on the forum without trying to sell you something..

its worth looking at things like zencart, designed to do sales...not sure on the cms capabilities, but Joomla would do both.

The problem with Zen Cart is that it's not really that great at handling the options for images, so you'll either have an arse ache setting up the options, or have a shed load of the same image with different products.

There is a bridge for Zen cart from Gallery2, apparently though - not sure how easy/decent it is though.

The Gallery 2 zencart bridge It works well, although for most practical applications it is superseded by the PayPal cart options. Using the zencart bridge adds a lot of useful functionality in the cart, but it comes at a price (set up time, and templating time)

There are many other good options, some that cost, some which dont. It depends on the functionality needed

Joomla, zencart, Wordpress, Gallery2 integrations - been there wore the tee-shirt - Its a case of choosing the right options for the site in hand

If someone wants an exact price, and a fair appraisal of the work, to be fair to all concerned, its not going to be something that's done in public. The chap is openly asking for a price, and to be fair, a exact price, or even a ball park figure cant be given without a reasonable discussion

If I turned around and gave a ridiculous price of say £500, right here in the forum, you could guarantee someone would come in and say "xyz is free" use "abc". That doesn't help the person asking, or the person figuring out what to charge

If someone wants advice, I give it freely (as in the recent Lightroom gallery/slim-box/chrome thread)

Hi Richard
I understand what you are saying about discussing what I am looking for and costing. I was just trying to get a start point and would not expect you or anyone else to post a price in the thread but maybe PM me.
Matt has pointed me in the direction of wordpress, but my concern with this is time and it would look very basic / home made if I tried myself and that is not the image I was want to portray. (even just reading the posts between yourself and Matt is ...whoa... I would be lost for ages.
I have made a note of your website will use your email if I need more information

Sorry Richard, you seem to have missed the point. NO ADVERTISING its pretty simple. I spend a lot of time on forums, and im able to help people with a lot of things without mentioning a)my company b) my products c) money. You know VERY well that if you wanted an advertisers account you would be very welcome to, but its not fair for you to pimp your wares for free while others have to pay for it. Simples.
