Hi everyone

I have done a bit of work on my website, www.freddieridge.com , could you have a look and let me know what you think of it?

As I only really take landscape photos and have a lot of them I was thinking of splitting landscapes up by regions on a separate page, could you let me know what you think of this idea?

Thanks!
Fred

Looks really nice.

I currently have my landscapes split into regions and I'm not sure it works. I've been thinking of dividing into seasons instead. Possibly your work might benefit from this too. You have some lovely landscapes.

BTW, Your About Me page doesn't work.

Cheers,
Andy.

The photos look fantastic, nothing to worry about there.

I don't particularly like the way your site branding is completely removed from the content though. It doesn't feel very 'together'. Similarly the forward/back arrows look rather out of place.

Personally, I would go with the blue branding across the entire width of the page and incorporate the navigation in a less awkward way.

Photos are excellent, I like the banner and logo, but would agree with apkent that the site doesn't look as good as it could. I find the background quite distracting and would prefer a single colour rather than the pattern.
The About Me page needs doing and when I went to Contact, it just took me to a Smugmug page.
A good start though.

Thanks for looking and the suggestions! You are totally right about the lack of cohesiveness. I have changed the background, slideshow and navigation bar to try to get it to look more together, which should hopefully solve the problems apkent and elli highlighted.

Ah yes, the About Me is a mess right now, but will be addressed soon!

Can you have a look and see if this looks better? Any more advice/ criticism is great!

Thanks

The one thing that I keep getting drawn to is the image in the header.

Keeps taking my attention away from the images themselves (which as others have said, are certainly NOT an area of concern!)

It almost looks like there's an error in the site and that image is up there by mistake.

It needs to either integrate with the logo a little more, or disappear all together IMO. As it is, it just doesn't seem to fit

Sorry, when I said blue across the width of the page, I literally meant the top bar should fill with width of the screen. The brown background was ok, but looked odd wrapping around the branding.

I still think something more imaginative could be done with the navigation links as well.

I quite like the blue, though agree that the previous one made the images pop a bit more. It was the stripeyness that I really didn't like though, so this is a definite improvement.

I think Simmotino might be right about the image with the logo too. Mabye try it without and see what you think. I like your logo and that might be strong enough on it's own. The image with the logo could look good on your about me page.

Thanks everyone for the comments, its really appreciated. I have changed the design again to a more simple one, which I think works better. Feedback has been great, please keep it coming!

Fred

Big improvement. I like it. Better without the header logo image. I do find the font in the 'About' page a little hard going to read though. Is that bold? The lettering is very closely spaced.

Andy.

Thanks for the comments.

Andy - I agree with you on that, will sort out the text, it isn't too easy on the eye!

razor - thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

I am thinking of having the website only contain landscape work, and splitting up landscapes into categories, maybe geographic or theme. This is because landscape is almost all I take. What do you think of this?

I hope this comes out properly, but... Your landscapes are clearly what you do best IMO. They are awesome. Your other stuff is still great but nowhere near as great. I would be happy to see just your landscapes and nothing else.

Andy.
