Agree but there are advantages too - it can be easier to put the couple at ease if you know them and its also easier to think of poses that look natural, or capture an expression that is typical of them.
I did have one point when after a group shot with friends I had a short time to do the B&G posed shots in the same area and needed the friends to go away... fortunately one helped out by rounding the rest up and getting them back inside.
