i havnt nicked anyones intros...

well this is a rather big coincidence

your site - wedding page

Everybody has a different perspective on what makes the ideal wedding day, which is why I take the time to understand what each couple wants from their photographer and their photographs.

Before the most important day of your life, I offer all couples a free Engagement shoot on location. This way I can get to know the couple and see how they photograph. This will make the big day a more relaxed occasion.

On the day itself, I try to stay as unobtrusive as possible taking the more formal shots as quickly as possible, without compromising quality.

As everybody's requirements for a photographer at a wedding are very different, I don't offer set packages. They are all individually priced.

All images will be put onto a CD.

stephen grants smiths site - wedding page

Everybody has a different perspective on what makes the ideal wedding day, which is why I take the time to understand what each couple wants from their photographer and their photographs. I prefer to have a session with the couple prior to the big day taking some photos of them in a relaxed setting and discussing their needs for the big day.

On the day itself I try to stay as unobtrusive as possible taking the more formal shots as quickly as possible, without compromising quality. My personal style is to mix the more traditional posed photographs with the more journalistic style capturing the wedding party and spontaneous events during the day.

As everybody's requirements for a photographer at a wedding are very different I do not have a fixed price for my services. To give you an idea, however, a fairly typical wedding would involve me being around to shoot the bridal parties preparations, the wedding itself, arrival at the reception venue, an hour or so while guests arrive and socialise and a cake cutting mock-up if required.

I will then design an album for you based on your favourite photos of the day. The albums are high quality with a choice of finishes and styles and can be any size with up to 80 pages.

If you would like me to tailor a quote to your specific needs please email me via the Contact page or call me on .....

Yours is basically a cut down version of his. As it happens if its who i think it is stephen may be mate of a mate of mine , so I might contact him later on and see what he makes of this strange coincidence ( I think its virtually certain that he didnt lift the text from you)

wierd init. i have to change mine anyway so i dont come iver as an experuenced photographer

This is a joke. It must be.

someones definitely taking the **** - for that to be a coincidence would be up there with a bunch of monkeys with typewriters writing hamlet.

I wonder whether stephen grant smith will see the funny side :bat:

Weird - I wonder if two or all of them were on the same wedding workshop together or something ?

for **** sake.. creative professionals should at least write thier own copy and show thier own work

well yes - but then creative proffesionals should understand how their cameras work too , and be able to spell 'what' for that matter

Haha these threds just make me laugh these days. This is a joke right? Why not stick all the BS in one section.

The links all look like they are template based.

Some of the providers of these templates also provide generic wording for pages. These are supposed to inspire and guide you to a way of getting your own personal message across. Unfortunately if photographers only change a few words they all end up looking the same in words as well as layouts ;)

that'll be what it is then but as richard said "for **** sake.. creative professionals should at least write thier own copy "

To be fair Ian does seem to be listening as his vsite is currently showing under construction on most pages (although he's still claiming his workshop model shots are weddings in the sidebar)

Who do these wedding photos belong to though?

My issue here is some cash strapped couple are going to land this guy as their wedding photographer not knowing what they'll get.

It's just not right.

Yes you have to start somewhere, but the way you've gone about this seems under hand.

My advice is scrap everything you've done, take a step back and start again. You can do it, but don't rush in.

to be fair i think they probably are his own shots - in all the ones with the bridesmaids in blue the subjects arent looking at the camera , which is a sure sign of shots taken while standing next to the main tog (either as a guest/uncle bob or as a very unuseful second shooter)

while the other ones are the work shop set - easily identified because that 'wedding' didnt have any guests at it.

you are right about it not being right to pretend to have a level of experience that you actually don't, but tbh anyone who hires him after seeing those shots is asking for it

Its been cleaned - i'll send you a pm to recap , but in short it wasnt anything you did

can you guys look at this about me page with any constructive remarks on ifn its OK or how it can be improved.

well its certainly more honest , however a few points

I'd drop the refference to houseletting and to commercial - both of those require specialist skills which to be frank you probably don't have, and also no business is going to hire a complete beginer with shots of dubious quality. I'd say focus only on events where you have a reasonable chance of finding someone with no real budget who thinks any tog is better than no tog

with regard to portraits - do you have the lighting kit (and relevant understanding of it) etc to do studio/home studio work - if not drop that as well

you say you can provide a qualified photographer.. can you ? , and why would a client want you to rather than hiring one directly ? - i'd drop that line as well

Also you need to take a step back and ask yourself whether you are really ready to even be at this point - do you have a full understanding of your kit and its capabilities, do you have sufficient kit to do the job etc... even working for free you have a moral obligation to your client to do a good job and if (as your other thread suggested) you have only just started using a DSLR then to be frank you arent ready to be offering your services 'for hire' even on an unpaid basis

portraits i meant life style. i have a friend who is a photographer of 20 years. i put that in in case 2 shooters where required.

i have a better understanding of my kit now using it most weekends

to be honest no one who reads further than the first line of your site is going to have the budget for a qualified tog, let alone two shooters ( I presume your freind doesnt work for free!)

if you want to go that route you are better off offering to second shoot with your freind , but him getting the clients in.

your target audience is those with bugger all budget who think that an inexperienced tog with 'one of those big fancy cameras' is better than just guest shots so they arent going to be looking for 2 shooters.

With regard to 'lifestyle' that is still going to take more knowledge of lighting etc than you have ( I'm not qualified to say exactly what it needs because i don't do that kind of work much) , unless of course you are litterally talking about taking shots of their kids in the park etc, in which case why would they want you do when they can do it themselves with a compact ?

ok so ill drop portraites and a second shooter and commercial. my mate will allow me to second shoot but it would be free.

I used to be a weekend warrior wedding tog - the business is currently on hold because I got promoted in my day job , moved from one side of the country to the other, and havent had the time to set back up yet (which is also why i don't currently have a website up)

by way of backstory I've been using an SLR for 25 years , and digital for the last 11 - I'd been using a DSLR for about 6 years before i ever shot a wedding, and did over 20 weddings as a second shooter before I did one solo. I also do nature and landscape as a hobby - from which i've sold the (very) occasional print , and I've done a teeny bit of sports and press (local papers only)

I don't touch potraits or commercial work because although I understand the basics of lighting and off camera flash, I don't realy understand studio lights well enough.

to be honest if you can regularly second shoot (for free) with your mate , i'd forget the website and just do that until you have enough decent pictures for a portfolio and enough experience to do it on your own

thanks for advise. i enjot landscspe photography. duppose i could do that and sell my good images ehilst i grt my experience up

ive used a slr for 10 years compact digital 4 years ans a dslr 1 year

Ian, can you not use the text speak please, it caused all sorts of trouble before when you used it instead of what's

Thanks

Whoops!!

Ian, taking a look at your website and taking into account the level you're at currently I think the best advice you can take, which has been offered by various people so far, is to take the site down completely.

You obviously have the domain name secured so no need to rush a website together, which is how it currently looks. Even offering services for free, people are still going to want to see your work, and there's absolutely nothing on there whatsoever, apart from the portrait on the front page. The products page again suspiciously looks like it's been copied and pasted from another site.

Spend a good few months just getting out with your camera, using it as often as you can, and speaking to friends, family members etc., using them to do shoots for your portfolio. Then as you do each shoot, post shots up on here for critique so you can gain much valuable advice on where to improve. Eventually you will gather a collection of shots, hopefully suitable to put onto a website and at least make it look a little busy, rather than a desolate set of white pages.

Granted you're wanting to set up as a togger, ww or otherwise, don't we all, but it takes time to build up and get the experience before you can get anywhere near the point of charging for services.
