Weddings?

Do not use these people.

http://www.squashedapple.co.uk/

Failed to turn up for a wedding yesterday after a detail chat on Wednesday. The lady who was getting married has been seriously crapped on,relied on mates P&S `s for any shots.

Now people will spout about excuses, there are none for simply not turning up................

I their anything we can do to stop squashed apple taking all the work and leaving us with none, I'm 50% down on last year and yet squashed apple did 7 weddings this weekend if you look at their Gallery
http://www.onlinepictureproof.com/squashedapple/view-your-photo/albums/18658

How did they manage to cover from Birmingham to Blackpool. They are advertising for trainee photographers. I applied with squashed apple, just to see, and it's 2nd shooter roles. And they wanted to pay a crappy £80 a day for a trainee role.

Talk about cheek, has anybody else been affected by the downturn in trade, their are loads of company's doing cheap packages

i feel deeply sorry for the b&g.as said, no one deserves a no show.
at least, if they have paid em at £25 an hour, they havent lost a huge amount of dosh.
cant imagine any decent wedding tog, just not truning up.
even if we had the severest of emrgency, say a car accident on the way to the wedding. we would still at least CONTACT the couple.

I am guessing that they simply outsource. They are an agency, you book through them and they will sort everything out for you.

A YouTube video showing the benefits of hiring a professional photographer versus the cons of going cheap would do wonders - especially if no company names were mentioned. If one, two, or three such videos were made, uploaded on a bimonthly basis with different tag words, and especially during the spring, summer and winter months, that would be pretty sweet, I reckon.

And here's a thought that just came up...

Suppose a photographer actually (heh heh - sounds crazy but hear me out) advertised his services in being able to "redo" the shoot after a fiasco wedding tog no-show. In other words, say a week or a month or soon after the wedding, the bride and groom rerent the suits and dresses, bring back the bridesmaids and in-laws (hoping they're local), and offers to reshoot the pictures in whatever setting the couple desires. heck, it could even be just them.

I know nothing compares to the original day, but there is value in salvaging such a sacred day for couples. And think of the non-stressful atmosphere you'll be shooting in. No more chasing the bride and groom. No more waiting outside or anywhere hoping to catch a fleeting glimpse of whomever - or waiting for Uncle Bob to finish talking.

I bet more than one couple would hire such a photographer. In fact, I'll even bet that up to thirty to forty percent of ALL wedded couples aren't satisfied with their wedding pictures. There's a lot of couples who hire friends with compact cameras out there.

Just a thought.

^^ I agree, youtube and maybe some monitored review site of photographers/companies.

As for doing reshoots, great idea, I've done on for a friend after they got back from their honeymoon at a local stately homes gardens. Amazing day and I learnt a lot. They loved the photos too and they were the first people ever to have one of my photos printed :)

They weren't happy with wedding photos and if you search on here you will find a thread by me ranting about their wedding video.

Lots of thoughts on this one.... part of me thinks that maybe the photographer had a bad accident on the way (it can take hours to find out) or some other crisis, which is fair enough, nothing you can do about it, including contacting them.

Part of me thinks how awful for the bride and groom, no matter what.

The other part of me remembers my weddings.

part of me doesn't give a **** about the photographer. Only viable excuse is dead/coma. If I crash the car and I/the kit is fine then we use another and are maybe late, if it crashes and I/the kit aint then I call one of the local guys I know in the hope one is free and let the ****ing BnG know ASAP

Or you are in a crash, you are pinned in your car and have to wait to be cut out by the fire brigade.

When they do, you are put straight onto a spine board and rushed off to hospital.

You won't get chance to use your phone.

this would fall into the unable to use phone category along with dead coma and hungover ;)

My point was that dead/coma are not the only 2 things that could cause a photographer to be unable to contact the B&G and it's all very well ranting about it, but until you know the full story you can't comment what you would have done in that case.

I think they do not do the jobs themselves , but are more of an agency.
they seem to bring poeple together for an event, from reading the jobs page
i must agree if that is the quality of there work i would not hire them.

the reason for the poor quality maybe to keep the website speed up.

i cant say this is true because we dont have there side of the story.

Cheers Steve

Cheap Wedding Photography - Squashed Apple Photography cheap deals have saturated the wedding photography market, or morelike ambushed.

August is a busy time of the year or should be, yet I have only covered 3 weddings this month, to be honest it's been drab.

Yet looking at Squashed Apples website gallery, they have done about 29 http://www.onlinepictureproof.com/squashedapple

Looking at this weekend by clicking on the thumbnail they covered weddings in Wolverhampton, Cheltenham, Sunderland and Manchester.

I'm definately contemplating buiding a fresh webpage and copying their business model

By the time you have covered your costs you won't have anything left!
Think about it, they are simply cutting the costs, they don't have decent photographers using decent gear trained to a decent level and I'll bet they cut corners with things like insurance too.

Stack them high and sell them cheap is OK when you are sitting at home getting all the profit. (If they shot 4 weddings this weekend and charged £400 then that's £1600. £400 to the photographers and another £200 to cover admin costs leaves them with £1000 profit) THAT's why the business model works.

If you do it all yourself all you end up being is a busy fool because you can't shoot 4 weddings, you can only shoot one a day so you could bring in £400 on an average weekend. Out of that comes your travelling, both meeting and getting the booking, shooting and delivery so thats probably £50 already plus two evenings meeting and delivering. My insurance is £600 a year so that needs to be spread out too so stick a number in there for that as well as professional association fees and training.......by the time you are finished you have worked a 10 hour day plus two evenings and for about £150!

That's not a sustainable business and this might sound harsh but if you are not keeping busy you need to look at why not and not just blame the first bit of competition you see that undercuts you. Don't compete on price, compete on quality!

They need to sue them for breach of contract and the associated fees of having the new wedding shots done etc. I am sure that with a few more mentions of SQUASHED APPLE appearing on these pages it will appear on google.

It would also appear that they are fiddling trustpilot reviews as well !!

The unhappy couple have had an offer from the company representative, he will make up an album of images taken by their friends with point and shoots, but.........wait for it............only if this thread is removed and I stop ridiculing them...........

Alledgedly, the tog had a fall out with his girlfriend and got locked out or summat equally inane.

Screw that, the thread is already in google archive, removing it from here will make no difference.

Personally, they should seek legal help and get his insurance to cover a complete reshoot of the day :D

If nothing else, a TP training day. Get a load of togs there taking lots of photos of them, and the cash charged could help cover things like cakes, suit hire etc :D

Cheeky blitters ...

I'm sure there would be a queue of people on here willing to help them put an album together for nothing given the mess they have found themselves in.

.... but.........wait for it............only if this thread is removed and I stop ridiculing them...........

Well that's okay. The mods shut this thread down and remove it ... and we start another one instead

Well, I hate to say it, but you get exactly what you pay for. Got to love these wedded folk who buy the most expensive rings, hotels, and honeymoon trips and ask for their friends to take pictures with automatic compact cameras. Talk about class...

Yep £35 quid an hour, what do they expect Lord Litchfield.

Oooooh  as a florist I can empathise with the traumas of 'doing' a wedding, I have been on my knees, throwing up with a bug while completing a brides bouquet and even if said bug had rendered me dead the flowers would still have been done as I always had a contingency plan. If he was locked out and unable to get to get his kit or whatever there should have been something somebody could have done! Definitely an inane excuse!

By 'album' does the rep mean crappy cd of collated images with no PP, placed hurriedly into an amateurish slideshow with copywrite infringed music? Because, otherwise, they are seriously offering more than the original package was worth and the B&G should take the deal :D :naughty:
