Hey there,

I am a New Comer to Wedding Photography.

The Question I need answering is.

What size pictures to use in a Clients Album?

What size is normally common in the Industry?

Thank you

Its totally irrelevant

You need to get a supplier, and then you will find out that there are all sorts of sizes and album designs... and then you will find out that you have complete creative control over a "storybook album", or a choice of overlays for other albums, or a photo a page in others.

I thought there was a Specific Size most Photographers used in an Album

Thanks for the Advice.

sim 2000 is good

I don't want to be negative , but given that you've never actually shot a wedding as first tog or created an album (as per other threads), how are you in a position to make recomendations ?

(I'm not knocking Sim 2000, they are good - but recomendations need to be based on experience or they are valueless)

Thanks for the Advice.

I will be Choosing Wisely don't worry.

Thanks Again.

Big soft Moose- what supplier would you recommend?

it depends on all sorts of things including client budget - but as a wild generalisation 'Loxley'

(although as i said above theres nothing inherently wrong with Sim 2000)

I'm not the best person to ask as I don't usually do albums, although i've done a handful (I prefered to go the less hassle, photos on rights released CD route) full timers like Richard above are better placed to give a decent recomendation.

Reality check time.

I've never hit the rude mode like this before - but are we up to one a week now?:suspect:
Shooting weddings with a (freebie) website with no people pictures, a bridge camera and no idea what the output that customers will expect / require?

Dare I ask?
Backups
Training
Contracts
Insurance
Financial Planning
Any idea at all what is involved (retaining dress detail would be a starting pointer - all those Swans have blown highlights)
:shake:

I appreciate that everyone starts somewhere - but it goes, crawl, walk, trot, run.

I'm not going to rush into it.

Just asking for advice.

I have been asked to do a Wedding for a Friend. I did the Engagement Shot for them.

I know all about The Insurance and stuff. Back up, yeah I have.

I know it's hard doing wedding photography.

A fellow professional advised me not to get into it. Because its more hassle than it's worth

What Photography is worth while??

Wildlife
Landscapes
Business
Social Events??

to be fair to all concerned its not you specifically that has flipped phils rude switch - there must be something in the air, or in the water because we are currently inundated with "i'm shooting a wedding" type threads generally from people who have shall we say basic skills and abilities (like the guy who had one thread about how he was a pro wedding tog, and another one in talk basics asking how you use M mode  )

So you can see why the people who do it a lot are getting a bit tired and tetchy

I'm sucked back in!
worthwhile? from a personal satisfaction point of view or commercial?
best way to make money with a camera is photograph someone famous doing something they shouldn't :P
most worth while? is shoot something you enjoy photographing!

Any photography that you enjoy is worthwhile.

Taking photographs for money is worthwhile when you enjoy it and it's financially viable, it ceases to be worthwhile if one of those goes away.

Photography will cease to be worthwhile if you end up on page 13 of the Daily Mail in one of their 'Our Wedding Photographer Ruined Our Lives' stories. You'll possibly never take a photo again.

Anyone can* photograph a wedding; but do your friends deserve or require a professional service - or will 'some snaps taken by a mate' do?

If it's the former - how long have you got to learn everything that you need to know? If it's not long enough - you know what the right thing to do is...

If it's the latter - Good luck - keep asking questions - fill yer boots.

Many have come unstuck by pretending to be something they're not. Small things like 'a fellow professional' can look really  in some contexts.

*to do it properly requires knowledge and equipment as well as people skills and confidence (and all the things I mentioned in my other post).

I enjoy wildlife photography.

In all fairness there is no money in wildlife photography unless I'm going to sell Prints and publish a Calendar

theres equally no money in wedding photograpy unless you know what you are doing and have the kit and the talent to give a good service.

Wedding photography Is not my number 1 job.

I don't know whether I would enjoy it.

I enjoy taking picture of Interesting People, Wildlife, Old Buildings, Family Gatherings. Even Birthday Parties.

Perhaps I should not bother with Weddings.

The other one I will learn more and more about, adding on to my Experience

what is this obsession, with making money out of photography, i can understand how it can come about after you've been taking photographs for a while and discovered that you're pretty decent at it, but i just don't get the "lets buy a DSLR and start charging to take photographs brigade" because we think we may make loads of dosh, its not that easy, ruddy hell i've been taking photographs, both on film and digital for years and still don't think i'm good enough to charge or sell.

To the OP, why don't you just enjoy taking photographs for your own pleasure, rather than thinking about making money out of it

There's money to be made in every kind of photography.

Wedding and Portrait photography always seems like the easy 'in', because everyone knows someone who's getting married. But whilst there are thousands of wedding photographers, there are hundreds of wildlife photographers earning plenty.

But it's not about whether you are a 'top pro'. Professionalism - comes before advertising your services, and it means that you have sufficient gear and knowledge and 'professionalism' to carry out the work you're offering to a 'professional' standard. That means photographic knowledge, gear, business knowledge etc.

No-one is suggesting you could or should never advertise your services, but you should be able to carry out the work to a professional standard before you do. The very first level of knowledge is 'unconscious incompetence' where someone is unaware of how much they don't know, the evidence suggests that you're currently at that level. There's a long way between that and conscious competence - where you know what you need to do but you have to think about it. That's the minimum required of a 'professional'.

That's a pretty good idea right there Lizzy

I might change the website for a Online portfolio instead.

Then just enjoy taking pictures.

Thanks

If photography is something you enjoy then why do you need to make money from it?

edit. got sidetracked in the middle of posting and the above 3 happened before mine was ready!

......sorreeeee!
