Hard drive failure 
1TB drive died with all the photo's, including the archives!
Thanks to my over cautious backup regime everything is backed up and I've lost nothing, didn't have to resort to the off site backup just got to buy a new drive
Just hope people take note and get their backups in order, too many threads on here requesting data recovery.
