I bought a Canon s100 a while back and although it produced some great pictures the AF was a bit slow and the battery didn't last long. Shot-to-shot with the flash on was very slow too.

I bought a Sony RX100 for the quicker AF but it wasn't as accurate as the S100 and as a result my keeper rate was way lower than the S100. I'm sure it would be fine for photos of static subject, but my son wont hang around to be photographed.

I've heard Panasonic are supposed to have very quick, accurate auto-focus but in all the online comparisons i've seen the Canon pictures seem to have much more realistic colours.

I think i'm going to have to buy another S100 but just thought i'd see if anyone has a better idea.
 
No it will not maybe XZ-1/2? Am very tempted by the RX100 though if I were you I might persevere...?
 
I like the Oly XZ-1. I haven't had a problem with battery life and also picked up some additional non original batteries at good price but that's because it stays in bag all the time and sometimes I'm away from home.
 
The XZ-1/2 still looks a bit big to me.

I think i'm going to get a Panasonic DMC-TZ25. I'd imagine i'll be trading a bit of image quality for speed but as long as the AF is fast and accurate and the metering pretty reliable, i'll be happy.
 
Bought a Panasonic DMC-TZ25 from Jessops (£150 after the £30 cashback offer) and i've got to say i'm really pleased. You may get slightly better image quality with other compacts but the difference is far outweighed by the focus speed/accuracy and metering accuracy. The keeper rate is much higher with this camera over my old Sony RX100 and it's quicker than the Canon S100. In good daylight it's almost instant. It's slower in low light but still a bit quicker than the S100 i'd say.

Overall i'm really pleased with the camera and will stick with this one.
