probably been asked a million times but i'm just getting ready to go to a game fair tomorrow, hopefully to try and get some shots of the birds of prey flying.....i appear to have put so much stuff in the rucksack, i can only just pick it up ! the contents are

1dmk11
40d
50-500 siggy
70-200 2.8 siggy
18-55 canon
28-80 canon
nifty fifty
flash
batteries
filters
cleaning stuff
mini tripod
groundsheet (to lie on if i need to get low)
and a very heavy manfrotto tripod strapped to the top !

far too much but i just hate leaving things at home when i go somewhere and then find i need what i left behind ! i think i'll need the 1d for speedy focus stuff and the 40d just for walking round with, not sure if i need to take the 50-500  need the nifty for the other animals, birds etc, i suppose i could walk round with the 1d  the nifty on the 40d is a nice thing to use though......oh i don't know what to take

are any of you victims of this "take the lot" syndrome ? or is it just a problem for incompetant novices like me ......is there a cure ? what would you leave at home ?

Are you hoping to remember what the birds look like ? If not you better pack some memory..

:lol::lol:

Yep i have this problem almost every day should i take 2 bodies, will i need the 70-200 but what if i leave it at home and then find i need it worse still what if i leave it at home and the house gets robbed:runaway: Do i take the tripod or should i just take the monopod what about the sigma 8mm incase i want to do a 360 then ill need the nodal ninja:bang:

Sometimes i wish i just played darts 3 prickks in my top pocket and a few pints down the pub life would be a lot easier:thumbs:

I think I'd be tempted to take it all, but leave most of it in the car boot. Just carry what you expect to need and the rest is there if you need it.

:runaway: see i forgot something.....thanks tbabe....2x4gig,2x8gig and 4x1gig cf cards safely in the rucksack.....just !

Oh & I would just leave the 50 - 500 & take the rest !!

If he wants birds in flight, won't he need this? Something longer than a 200mm at least?

BTW, where is this fair?
EDIT: After a quick Google, I'm guessing Shugborough?

sypix.....yes it's shugborough, only a lttle fair but it's better than sitting at home ;)

ey ups knocker,

you forgot something............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................the kitchen sink.

cheers paul.

In your position I would be deciding between the 70-200 and the 50-500 (How many birds in flight shots versus how mnay static bird shots?)
And also leaving the 40D at home
along with the 18-55 and the tripods.

Leave the 50-500 and even sell it and get the Sigma 2 X extender and use it with the 70-200.

Camera plus 2 lenses, beanbag and walking stick that doubles as a monopod.
Tripod if I have something planned for it.

Been too often down that road of feeling I was carrying a grand piano. Overloading is an outing waster.

That goes for trips on foot. Different if not going far from the car.

paul, i'd only need one lens if i had a 35-350 :p:p:D

have been to the game fair, left the 50-500 at home and discovered that i could get nowhere near with the 70-200 :( so, royston may have an idea there

I take the lot! Fortunately I don't have very much, but regardless I'd probably still take it all! You never know what you're going to come across, and you can guarantee that that moment you decide not to take something, you're going to see that once-in-a-lifetime sight that you NEEDED that bit of kit for!

Take the lot .... I would need a Sherpa :D

It all depends what I am shooting, but there is no way I would carry more than three lenses and a body for pleasure. Most days I take just the one, which in fact instils some discipline into your shooting, and forces you to think a bit more about what you are doing.
