What do you do for $$$'s

well, i went through business gateway for my photography business last year, but as its not earning enough ive been working part time for a friend at a florists doing deliveries, he also works for a dutch flower wholesaler bringing flowers back and forth from Holland twice a week, so i help him now and again with that as well as help his brother on a dutch flower lorry that delivers flowers round edinburgh, the boss has also started a executive car hire company with a bentley, stretch limo and a couple of other cars, so just applied for my hackney license, outwith that my wife works so im kinda a house husband too.

I for my sins work for IBM in the software brand, and in the past I have sold products into the porn industry

I'm a househusband to my lovely wife, and 2 beautiful kids, 6 1/2, and 18 months.

During term time it's ace. School holidays are a nightmare.
But it's the best decision I've ever ever made.

Missed alot of my daughters early years through workin silly jobs, silly shifts, and silly hours.
With my son I get to not only see it, but be a big part of it, and I couldn't be happier.

Money's tight, but **** it, you can't take it with you when you're gone, and the bills are paid and there's a roof up top, so we got what's important. :)

awww that is so sweet Marcel! :D Sounds like you really "get' it and know what's important in life. It sure isnt the money is it. Your wife must be proud. Mine are 6 and 8(daughter in avatar) and I'm just starting to think of going back to work, school etc,, I wanted to be home for the early years as well. Once those years are gone that's it. You never get them back. I enjoyed it completely and to be honest I would stay home for another 6 to 8 years if I could. :)

I'm a driver, I could tell you who for but then I'd have to get Arkady to shoot you ;)

What a wide variety of occupations! For the past 23 years I've worked for http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/ (a Dept. Trade & Industry agency).

So I guess you would know a thing or two about solvent liquidations as well if I need any independant opinions ? ;)

God! If only!!!

Now how to get away with that without resorting to having kids!

I'm a nearly qualified chartered accountant (ACA). I've passed all the exams, I just need to finish the remaining 8 months of my 3 year training contract. What happens then is anyone's guess at the moment!

I work for a small firm: www.cansdales.co.uk. We have a wide range of clients, but our specialty is charities. I find this quite fulfilling, as we are providing a servie to clients who really matter. :)

Accountants fees are one of lifes mysteries. Never seem to be proportionate to the amount of work they do.

They do however seem to follow quite well the level of profit generated in the business they are auditing. We once asked ours if they just charged what they thought they could get away with. They said no - but the denial was not strenuous enough to make it believable :(

Now the engineering contracting company I have worked for this last 13 years (?) have just been bought by one of the largest european (french) construction groups - things are about to change ... significantly if I am not mistook ! Still, may mean more time for photography ... :smilenod:

I guess you might have thought me a student, as I might have mentioned about exams and stuff on here. In fact, at work, us trainees are known as 'students' - so you were kind of right!

Most of the peeps who work at the firm I do arent boring, miserable or penny pinching. In fact they are a great bunch mostly! You must have had bad luck with the ones you know! :p

yeah thats it, you mentioning exams stuck in my brain....

with regard boring etc, im yet to be convinced but i take your word for it!

I completed my degree in Virtual Reality Systems BSc in June last year, and am working for a small IT company in Leeds. We do alsorts from building machines right through to software/web development which is what I specialise in. A bit of a change from my degree title I guess, but I enjoys it - making mainly database driven websites (with PHP & MySQL for those who are interested).

Hope one day i'll perhaps get into teaching/lecturing of some kind, mainly for the holidays - work doesn't half get in the way of being professionally lazy!

Matt

well when i left school i set out to become a programmer, then got offered a apprentiseship electrician, stayed with that firm for 15 years the 2 years a go set up a electrical contracting partnership with my mate. Its good but hell its lot harder then working for somebody else and despite what people think the money isn`t much better then being employed.

Wow! - A big diversity of professions here.

I worked for a major airline in the UK for many years. Started off as an engineer and ended up as co-ordinator of an aviation security unit. During some of those years I started (by accident) a part time business in Africa...... in 2000 I like many others here found myself doing something that drove me crazy. - So I left my job, moved to Africa and turned what had been my part time business and full time obsession into a full time business.

We sell all types of tailor made safaris to the general public. If it happens outdoors in Africa we can arrange it. A lot of our work is in close partnership with the various government parks boards and game conservancies so I get to visit some great places and meet some great people.

Right, that's the TPF outing for 2006 sorted :D

WOW, very impressed. Anybody who follows their dreams gets my respect. Went on a safari a few years back.......tiring but utterly amazing :)

Oh really?! Which one? I have been known to frequent a mbike shop or two in Bristol.

DJW

It took all my courage to make the change in lifestyle and move of country, but I've never regretted it...... my bank manager has, but I haven't.....

As you say, life on safari can be very tiring, but I reckon it's worth it. A lot depends on finding a suitable venue for the client...... Each has individual needs & tastes. If a client is solely after great photographic opportunities it sometimes helps to go somewhere that has a smaller area of land and perhaps a tame or semi tame animal or two. If they want to experience wild Africa then these venues might not be the best choice.
