What does everyone do?

I work for National Grid as a Project Planner during the week.

Well, I am supposed to be the team leader in the system assembly dept for a computer firm in Bradford... for the last 5 or 6 weeks I have been working as a picker in the high value store to cover long term illness so my manager has been left to cover my dept...

I am dreading going back to it as I have no idea what state it will be in now that he's had a hand in it...

I've probably been in your Portakabins & your clients probably know me :)

I am a student, I am studying design; just about to start the second year.:puke: lol:LOL: :D

I work for a company called La Poste - The French Post office, one of Europes largest employers.
I manage a ledger for them in the UK divisions Bristol office with an average turn over of £1 million per month on my work and £10 million overall each month. Dealing with international haulage and parcel delivery to places as far flung as Mexico and OZ.

Sadly my french colleagues get more hols and better wages - par for the course :(

Diego.

I fix helicopters for the RAF up here in the grim north-east, Search and Rescue :)help: )helicopters to be precise. It's not great but it has it's rewarding moments and as far jobs in the military go it could be worse, I don't wear camo, I don't live in a tent and I don't get sent anywhere less civilised than the falklands but my job is being contracted out to civvies soon so all those perks will be short lived:thumbsdown: .

 Now I'm hatching my escape plan, I've got just over a year to complete it but first I need to decide which direction to dig my tunnel in.:exit:

I’m self employed, 18 years now... run one main and two mediocre small profitable businesses to do with Motorcycles, Motor sport and Mechanical Engineering. I'm trying to get the main one to go national soon...possibly next year, fingers crossed... and paper work willing. :D

I like to invent stuff too....not made £££ with anything yet though.:(

but my zero level of BS tolerance makes me virtually unemployable anyway. ;)

I know just what you mean, I left the army myself years and years ago...tried working for a few peeps, a week here and their...godamn these employers are so full of poop and that's just so annoying as their meant to be your leaders, show by example and all that....needles to say, I'm not sure if its because there full of it...or weather I simply have a problem with authority, but I've never been able to hold down a job for more than a week or two....Good job I don't care really.

Living of my wits was so much more enjoyable as it turned out... and more profitable too.

Been in the printing industry for 17years, various positions Graphic Design, DTP, Scanner Operator.

As of the 1st September i will be unemployed as i had a big falling out with the management over working conditions. Going to do some Courier work which is quite well paid and also starting up my own photo printing company. Doing prints onto Gloss, Matte, Canvas, Mugs, Mousemats, Keyrings, bags etc.

I work for a small software development company, only 6 of us so as you can guess I have multiple roles, but officially I'm an Account Manager.

I work in Customer Services just now.

If the SIA ever bother to send me my licence I'll be working as a bouncer.

CCL?

I'm currently a Network Manager at a school in Bradford, looking for something new now though because I'm short of a challenge :)

yes, unfortunately I work for CCL :bang::bonk:

I'm an IT Manager for a large services company. - yer I know Boring! but work has been a bit of a rollercoaster since mixing for bands, and then GCHQ during the Gulf 1 - it had to settle down at some time.

I mainly work in training and support of a schools management system responsible for its use in Cumbria and the north of England.

Hey Kev when you next fix the S&R Helicopters can you quieten them down a bit - living next to Carlisle Hospital helipad I get used to be woken up at 3am when they try taking my roof off!

Me?

I do contract work for a Company in Bath who produce high quality images, brochures and floorplans for Estate agents like Jackson stops & staff & Knight Frank.......www.quidos.co.uk (shameless plug)

I also do some freelance stuff, starting doing weddings etc next year.

At weekends I'm a pump monkey at the petrol station 30 seconds from where I live. It's a terrible job but pays my rent as my other work can be a bit off and on!

I went for a job interview at CCL when they were still down at Leeds road for sales, about a year after I left school, they decided that I would be wasted in sales and so got the head technical bloke in and I was offered a job in technical. Wonder if I did the right thing in turning it down all those years ago now :(

Oh well, I'll just keep playing the lottery and searching cwjobs :)

3 sets of redundancies in 2 years... and that's not the whole story...

I'll leave you to work it out :exit:

I work as an Dimensionally and Visual Inspector of Wide Core Fan Blades for the RR Trent Engines. As for what I do.... not alot.

Keep us posted about this venture, as it could benefit all ;)

I head up a team of software testers during the day. In the evenings, I turn into scum. Unless it's an evening when I play in the band. And then I become lowlife scum... ;)

I'm a project manager in a large IT company - dull, dull, dull...

Dark Star

aka John, Robert's mate

John Holmes's body double.

um...... not really.

I started a little part time thing a couple years ago helping people reduce and better manage their utility bills. I'm now able to start winding down my day job so I can spend even more time doing, um, er, other things like reading forums, travelling and standing in for my mate John :)

right now I am off sick with infamed tendons in my left shoulder, have been for weeks now, I am left handed BTW. The job that caused it is hateful, well not so much the job but the spiteful people that work there, it is making the most beautiful wedding veils, the glue gun is the culprit, which is used to attach the gorgeous Swarovski Crystals in pretty patterns. It made me sad that these horrid women, that swore constantly and slagged anyone that left the rom were making these special veils used as a symbol of love, I had a theory that the weddings using the veils that I produced would last and the veils they made wouldn't

I qualified as a DTP in 2003 and was working for Southampton University producing brochures, pamphlets, flyers and a newspaper promoting their part-time courses until I moved here to be with Baz and haven't been able to find any work in that department as yet...

Before that I was a Sugaring Practioner, did that for year's so I could work from home

Before that I was an auxilliary nurse in a maternity department

Before that I hand stiched curtains for a company down the road from where we lived

my ex reckoned I never worked...hmm...go figure!

"Sugaring Practitioner" - do you mean cake decorator? Or are you just really good at adding sugar to cups of tea and coffee?

I do engraving via computer.
Its not high street type engraving, but data labels for electronics firms to put on their cabling panels mainly. Full time mostly.

My husband and I have a light haulage (courier) company of our own too, which he does full-time and I will do a trip to Wales or up north once a week or so to help out so he can go elsewhere. I often start out at 3am and then once Ive delivered in Wales I go back to work on my way home and finish the day till 5pm! :wacky:

I also sort out peoples computers in my "spare" time...software and hardware.

For 5 years I ran an Under 13's boys cricket team in a local league every Sunday.

In the past I have: - Reared calves
- worked in an office
- converted donor Triumph cars into Marlins...
(bodywork and engines)
- Oh............and brought up 2 boys too! (one of which got his A level results yesterday and has been accepted into University after his 4 month trip to Australia soon) (y)

I am a software tester.... been doing it now for 2 years for the largest credit referencing company in the country.

Before that I was in telesales.... never again! How they come up with targets that are way, way, way too large to ever meet is beyond me :bang:

Chris.

I am in charge of our family business which sells fresh food to commercial and institutional caterers, convenience stores and delis. We are based in Inverness and distribute throughout the Highlands - how lucky is that!

I joined the RAF at 17 and trained as an aircraft technician but gave it up when my late father asked me to join firm. Been here ever since. I once owned a parcel company (never, ever again!) and currently own a deli and a couple of greengrocer shops which do not make any money but are nice to look at!

If you have any questions about Scottish or artisan food I am your man!

Would rather make a living flying my paraglider and taking pictures (of naked women preferably) but reality bites. This job makes a good living so photography will remain an outgoing for the forseeable future.

BTW I like this thread. It is good to hear what everyone does

I know...has it all grown back yet?

Getting there. Might have to do it again soon, before I get my winter coat back!

Been doing it 8 years now. Can't say I enjoy it too much though... but the company I work for is fairly flexible, which is a good thing

Aye, (y) on the thread starter.
It's interesting to hear about everyone else on here. Forums can become quite anonymous, and its nice to read about the people we chat to every day...get to know them that little bit better.

Marianne? You just keep your sugar where I can see it..lol

Well WE certainly cant!! He will work for 10 months when he returns from Australia and will then decide whether to go to Kent or Hertfordshire Universities, or stay at work (my bet is, once he has been earning.....he wont want to stop!!):D
