Ok I was taking a few piccies of birds from my window - trying to practise panning a bit.

Anyway, this photo came out.. well, sort of odd. Probably a simple answer, but what happened to the wing? I was on 1/1000s, f/5.6, ISO 500.

Just not sure what caused it to.. well, not appear!

Would've searched but had no idea what it was called to search :D

I think the wing is angled backwards away from you? And not completely unfurled?

The triangle whitish line type thing is the edge of the wing though, so if it is he must have moved it too fast for even 1/1000s to be fast enough exposure time? :S

I don't think it's the wing - isn't it just a reflection of the bricks in the water?

I took a shot recently of a Goldie taking off and the wing tips were still blurred at 1/2000th second.

Wow. It's almost as if it's using optical camouflage using projection - record on one side and instantly display on the other to make something appear not to be there :D

Very odd, to me anyway :)

The weirdness almost makes it less annoying - that was the best picture I got of one, they kept hanging out by the water and was struggling with exposure, and that picture has had nothing done to it but cropping and colour balance.

the birds right wing is facing you front edge on...you can see the large part of the front of the muscle but not all the rest which i think is pointing away from you...do you have multiple frame function on your camera...say 5 fps..this may help

Do a search for a recent thread on 'bending helicopter blades' or words to that effect. Because of the way the shutter works, it can have strange effects on very fast things. I think it could be that but I'm unsure.
