What Have They Done To Flickr?

Yes
I was hoping to post some photos from a studio shoot on Monday evening.
When I went to my Flickr photo stream I found that the all sizes page had changed and I can,t work out how to copy the image to post it on the T.P. site. Why can,t they leave things alone that work ok. Help!

Right click the image and choose medium size 640. Click it, then right click the image that shows up and click save picture link.

Voila.

Click Share This > Grab the HTML at the top of the photo page - you can select a size from the popup menu.

You can then copy the same information you'd have from the Other Sizes page in the old layout.

Personally, I've been using it for over a month now and I think the new Flickr layout is a huge improvement.

This is the only htlm I can find.It is four lines where before there was just one line.I can,t see this working.

I am doing what you tell me but I don,t seem to be seeing the same as you.
You mention the html at the top of the page but I don,t see it.Thanks for trying to help.It must be me.

I see the section you highlighted Neil is the bit I want. But how do I copy just that from the Flickr page? When I right click I get four lines of figures and letters and when I click copy I get the lot.

Lovely - that was bugging the **** out of me as well - be all right if they'd tell you this stuff...

Flickr Terms of Service state that you must always provide a link back to your Flickr photo page whenever you place it on another web site. ;)

true. in which case i usually to this:

once the image tags are inserted into the forum "post reply/thread" box highlight the whole thing and click the "insert link" button, then paste in the URL in the address bar for the image on flickr. that should wrap the link around the image.

Flickr API Bookmarklet to convert to BBCode via PHP - http://blog.seanmcg.com/?p=190

I've been toying with the idea of writing a pure JavaScript bookmarklet that would do it all within the Flickr page. Maybe when I have some spare time... :)

This is getting even more complicated now.I now need to know how to provide a link as well as posting a photo. Why didn,t leave things as they were.:'(

There's a script for Greasemonkey (Firefox addon) called Allsizes+ that does all the conversion for you, leaving you with a nice forum link... Haven't used flickr for a while, but I'd assume that still works :)

EDIT: You've always had to link back to Flickr, it's been in their T&C's for ages!

In the past I have just copied the photo,s htlm info and the photo appeared on T.P.I see that some people have a link to their Flickr page I but never worked out how to do that. You can probably tell that I am not very clued up with computers.
Thanks for the help but up to now I am still not able to work out how to put info into practice.

Do you use Firefox?

I think I have Firefox installed.I have now managed to post a link to the photo but still not able to post the photo direct.

Thanks everyone for your help.I have now sorted out how to post my photos.
I do it the way Neil g.suggested.The trouble was that me being a computer novice I didn,t know how to isolate the bit of the htlm that I needed.A computer expert friend of mine came round today and showed me how to do it.Looking through T.P.there seems to be a lot of people having the same problem with the new Flickr layout. Thanks again.

I'm just going to the picture size I want, right click the image and click properties.

Copy the link and paste it into your post.

Stick
at the end.

Simple as.................

Aye, agree with this. It's actually as easy as it was before. Same amount of steps.

Old way:
Click on all sizes
Click on size you want
Copy the location

New way:
Right click and select size
Right click on photo and select properties or view image
Copy photo location.

Of course, it's quicker now if you use Chrome or Firefox:
Right click and select size
Right click on photo and select Copy image url/location (Chrome/firefox)

I'm probably not going to renew my flickr pro account when it runs out in September anyway. Seems to me they change things for the sake of it. We all want things to advance but sometimes it might be nice if they asked for opinions.

As to linkback, they are my pictures so I'll do as I like. If they kill my account so be it, I have some hosting that I'll just use instead. It's just not as friendly as flickr as I cant be bothered to learn code and make a pretty site.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I think the new layout is a huge improvement.

In particular I like

- Larger image - 640px instead of 500px
- View on Black (this saves me a lot of time using external APIs)
- The vastly improved selection mechanism for Sets and Groups. I cannot stress how much better it is now. This was always a major gripe for me.
- The Actions and Share This menus are much more logically organised than the old ones.

I find using the Share This menu to get at the URLs I need is a lot quicker than faffing around going to the different size pages in the old layout. It's hardly difficult.

Er, they did.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/newphotopagepreview/

I've been using it since the preview was first announced at the end of June. It was made pretty obvious what was going on. There was a big banner at the top of the page when you logged in.

As to linkback, they are my pictures so I'll do as I like. If they kill my account so be it, I have some hosting that I'll just use instead. It's just not as friendly as flickr as I cant be bothered to learn code and make a pretty site.

Well, that's your prerogative. You did accept their Terms & Conditions when you signed up for a Flickr account and nothing has changed since then in respect of link-backs.

e2a: Flickr is not and never has been photobucket.

I like the new layout but removing the direct link html sucks. It does hint in the FAQ though that they might fix it?

Where is the HTML code and photo file link?

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in "Share this." To get to it just go to the main photo page, click "Share this", and then "Get the HTML."

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

We understand that many people were using that link on message boards to show their images and we are working on a solution that will allow you to post using BBCode (standard message board code) that links back.

Not that I really understand what BBCode is :)

A little guide to posting Flickr pics the CORRECT way. The end result is the same as the method described by neil_g, but step 2 makes it easier.

1. Grab your HTML from here...

2. Go to here... http://www.digitalrelish.net/tools/flickr-to-bb-code.php (it's worth putting this in your bookmark bar)

And enter the HTML into the the first box, click submit, and retrieve your BBCode from the second box.

3. Paste that code directly into your post. No need for any extra tags.

The result...

Clickable back to my Flickr page.

Of course, it's quicker now if you use Chrome or Firefox:
Right click and select size
Right click on photo and select Copy image url/location (Chrome/firefox)

Yup thats what I do and then add the tags....is it possible to have them added automatically?

[quote="neil_g, post: 2869947"]yeah you can do that but youre breaking flickrs terms of service by not linking back to the image page..[/QUOTE]

Didnt know about that  does everyone on here link back to flickr?

Hi Guys,

A new option has appeared on Flickr for you to grab the BBCode directly from your photo page, so my guide now goes something like this... (And it is seriously easy!)

1. Grab your BBCode here...

2. And paste it straight into your post.

Well that saves me writing the JavaScript bookmarklet I was contemplating.

If anyone complains that the new format is more difficult to post pics with now...
