Yes
I have just decided to go back to the world of the DSLR and leave the bridge camera as a spare. Having previously owned a D80 and D300 I think I understand Nikon but do not want to shut off the Canon door. What is the best equal to the D90 in the Canon range?

Regards,
Chris

the 50d is a bit of an upgrade the 450d is a bit of a downgrade, I'd go for a 50/40d budget depending and have some new toys to play with

I'd recommend a tamron 17-50 f2.8 instead of the kit lens too

yes I agree, but if you dot need the video mode then a used 40D or even 450D are both excellent cameras. The lenses are the issue

Nikon and Canon never really compete - but I'd say the 40D is closest.

The 40D gets plus points for not having idiotic video modes :)

The closest competitor with video is the 500D, the 50D is between the D90 and D300 but doesn't do video.

canon 40D is the equivelent

I think I'll go and have a look at new a D90 - I am not interested in video but not sure that I can bring myself to buy a Canon unless it is secondhand. Unfortunately those Canons I have been offered appear to indicate that Canon really hold their secondhand value, possibly better than Nikon.

Thanks for the interest and advice.

40D and there may be a few left at camerabox for £570 - superb value and a metal rather than plastic body.
