What Lens would you recommend?

I have a Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm lens kit, but I am now looking at other lenses.

What would you recommend? Want a good all round lens (don't fancy swapping it all the time) with a decent zoom...

Cheers for the help (y)

If you can stretch to £229 there's a lovely 55-200mm VR lens. VR basically lets you shoot at very low shutter speeds, without a tripod, and still get sharp (non-blurry) pictures. Check out this thread: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=29809

:)

Remember before you buy any lens for your d40 make sure it is an AF-S lens, otherwise it will not autofocus.

The idea of a lens with a huge zoom range sounds great. 18-300mm or something. Fact is that that zoom range comes at the price of image quality. Nearly everyone that buys such a lens ends up selling it.

Add other lenses with different ranges first and read lots of reviews so you know what to expect.

but just been informed its NOT the VR so not necessarily as good! SOS!

I don't know Nikon lenses but that is not the same lens (no VR) - and it is cheaper elsewhere in any case ;)

edit: too slow :)

Hi Guys

I still haven't got a new lens but I have beent thinking about it and I have decided to go for this

18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX IF ED

Reason being is that I fear if I go for something like 55-200mm i'll be constantly changing the lens, which I don't want to do. The 18-135mm lens will give me that little bit extra (i think) but still give me the 18mm...

Wise idea or am I talking crap? lol

Also can anyone find the lens cheaper than £193?
