Slightly connected, I once learned to play the guitar parts for Every Breath You Take, which requires some careful stretching, only to have a keyboard playing friend knock it out effortlessly complete with correct damped-string tone. At that point I decided life was too short to learn difficult guitar parts I didn't actually like.

I think anybody that argues against Knopfler being one of the greatest guitarists ever should be shot in the face, but he does like his country music.....

The 'whiney guitar' is called a pedal steel guitar.

I love the sound of it in Walk of Life and the solo at the end is truly remarkable.
