What the hell...

It's the original MK1 version of the current 300mm 2.8L and still an absolutely stonkingly good lens. I'd expect that lens to make a good price - as much as 1500-1600 quid possibly. If you could get it for substantially less you'd be getting a bargain. ;)

Interestingly every single image except one showing the front and year elements and a shot through the lens. It mentions scratched, I wonder what is scratched.

Sue has one as well Cedric so I'm pretty well versed with it myself. Cracking lens. I think Sue's was £1200 and it's a lot of lens for that sort of money.

I've now got the IS version.. the other one is awaiting a 'tinkering' but it is indeed a cracking lens, and a bargain if you can get hold of one for <£1500 :)

Oops I think I may owe the ebayer an apology:nuts: seems it is legit

Don't bother apologising - just buy it! :D
It will be interesting to see what it goes for actually...

What do you mean by tinkering?

Also how good is the non IS version for shooting football etc? Would it be a step up from my current 300 F\4?

Not sure how long canon will be able to service them, they stopped making then over 10 years ago.

Be warned that if the AF fails Canon UK do not have any spare parts so you would have to find an independent fixer and get very lucky!

Strange how he put it is the IS version in the listing...

Yep, but there are places who can repair them. It'll probably go for £1500 I think. Cracking lens - I have one myself.

It would be a big step up.. also a big change for you as the 300 2.8 is a heck of a lot bigger and heavier than the f4 version.. I have had both..

Q: Hi is lens scratched at all would you take 300£ for it Paul

There are loads of chancers on Ebay asking that sort of question - don't know how people have the nerve actually, as its a **** take off the highest order.

lol some guy is offering to pay £300 for it. He must be mad :)

He might owe you a Thanks, you've certainly increased it's exposure for him in a very good place!

Got relisted with a different (much more detailed) description, now mentioning some light scratches to the element and dust inside - seems it went as a BIN price of £1000.

Agree with CT is it a bargain
