Hi all, in a few months time i will be lucky enough to have about £1500 quid burning a hole in my pocket, question is what to buy?

I currently shoot with a nikon d80 and to be honest i cant fault it, but it is getting on a little, on the other hand i only have pretty much budget glass so i was think about splashing the cash on the nikon 24-70f2.8 lens giving me body upgrade potential in the future.

But then again i keep looking at the d300s body with a midrange lens hmmm

I currently shoot anything and everything but im leaning towards pet photography mainly dogs as i have a keen interest in them and i have also sold a number of prints and hoping for a part time business start up in the near future.

I have included a link to my flickr to see my work so far.

some advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

New glass will make more difference to your shots than a new body.

I'd go for New Glass. But i don't know personally if i could drop 1500 on one len's. I'd look second hand for a 24-70( Around 900 ish?) Then either spend the rest on some other glass. Or buy yourself a used D200/D300?

I'm not that great on the Nikon Prices sorry!

My advice was going to be identical. The D80 is great, but Im not sure it has the resolving detail to get the best out of the 24-70, so a used D300 and 24-70 would be a good all round upgrade. You should just about get in budget if you shop around. If you buy on ebay, set up a quidco account.
I bought my D700 and 24-70 on ebay together for £2300 and got £44 cashback.

Although I know nothing about nikon gear, I have to agree with the others glass must be a priority.

Hi I picked up an low count D300,as new for £600 a while back, which would leave you with £900,to pick up a good len, best of both worlds :)

I expect to find myself in much the same position later in the year, £2kish is going to be burning a hole in my pocket, realisticly I can get anything as I only have the D40x with a 18-105 nikkon lens just now.
Street / portrait / bit of sport for fun seem to be the way my interests are going, its been interesting reading this thread let me know how you get on with the D7000.

Yes will do, next on my list is a fast midrange zoom lens, at the mo I'm very happy with my 50mm 18 :-)

Good choice there sir, your next purchase will be bigger hard drives :D
