What was your first 'L' Lens ??

My first was a 70-200 f4 non IS - i used it ona 300d at the time. I traded it for a Sigma 80-400 OS, which was a good move at the time.

I didn't think the L glass that special at the time - in hindsight i wonder as i'm mainly Sigma lenses at present.

Just got a 5d and 24-105 L IS - only shot about 50 clicks so far, does seem very good, but at £600 it should be !!

My first (and only so far) was the 100-400L.
I do want to get a 24-105 or maybe a 24-70 in the future.

My first was a 24-70mm F2.8 L. Theres always been a bit of a debate about this lens and the 24-105mm L F4. Personally I tried them both and this one suited me best.

My second and last L lens is another controversial choice the 70-200mm F2.8 L IS

My next will be a 16-35mm mk II L (and that will be my last, well maybe :) )

Ordered the 70-200mm f2.8 IS and 300mm F4 on the same day, although had to wait 2 weeks for the 300mm, the 400mm f5.6 the following month.

Was badly bitten by a 17-40, I think I got infected -- my savings account has never been the same... :D

I've only got one, an older 70-200 f4 that was given to me. I have borrowed a 24-105 a couple of times that was a lovely walkabout lens. Not that they make any difference to my ability or lack of

I'm with you Susie....I've got 16 L's and can still manage to make a raving beauty look like Nora Batty on a bad hair day. :crying:

My first was a 70-200mm f4 followed by a 100-400mm from Kerso. They were both for my 20D. Then I bought the 5D as a kit with the 24-105mm f4 and I absolutely adore that combination. It's the lens I leave on in the bag and I only change if I want something other than that!

I added a 100mm macro last year and this year I've bought two Sigmas to add some specific features. I bought the 70-200 f2.8 because I wanted f2.8 at that range and also a 15-30mm because I wanted a wide angle.

I don't tend to do a lot of photography above the 200mm length and if I were to add anything else I might be tempted by an f2.8 at somewhere around that 70mm range.

My first one was 24-105mm followed by 100-400mm
Love it!!!!!!

70-200 f4l usm, it has to be the cheapest L lens for a newbie and really worth it :D

70-200/4L IS here.. What an expensive mistake, made me realize how great photos even I could take. I was close to giving up on photography before that.

I know pros can take great shots with mediocre equipment but pro equipment saved this mediocre shooter's hobby :)

17-40mm f4

Mine was the 24-105mm f/4L IS USM that I picked up after being forced to upgrade. Awesome lens!

So far the only complaint I have really isn't the fault of the lens, my winter photography usually involves me watching Hockey through the camera eye and I just need more reach than the lens provides. I do know my next L lens will probably be a 70-200...just have to figure out a way to get it prior to Hockey season :D

Only got one L and it's the 70-200 F4, non IS of course...

It's barely left my camera since I bought it. Would love a 300/400 prime though.

First was the 100-400 but it was quickly followed by the 300 & 400 primes. The 70-200 IS II F2.8 was a revelation in itself and then the 24-70 F2.8 was the same. Now the 500 IS II F4 has made the first three look silly! Bank balance hasn't faired so well though.:crying:

400 IS II F2.8 could be next (if the Lotto numbers come up) as I reckon that must be one of the most awesome lenses available.

70-200 f4 followed by 24-105 followed by 24-70 followed by another 24-105. Next up is the 70-200 f/2.8 II

I went inti LCE in lincoln to have a look at a 100-400 L and ended up with a 100 L macro as well as the 100-400. Easiest £2000 I ever spent lol.

I got my 24-105 as a kit lens with a 5D2 last november (sold the 5D2 but kept the lens) and last week I got my latest and best model of the 70-200.

I bought a 70-200 f4 non IS last year, sold it and another lens and got the 2.8 IS MkI in march and then I sold it and my first body (550D) and got the 70-200 f2.8 IS L MkII and it's just awesome

Will probably go for a 17-40 f4 (but I don't really do much landscape) or maybe save up a lot for the 28-300 IS L as a very good walkabout lens (would get more use but is 3 times the price) next but who knows.

Just bought the 70-200mm f/4 L Non IS as my first lens purchase. So I now have that and the 18-55mm kit lens for a 550D.

I should add I saved my wages for a month and put in a lot of hard graft to be able to afford it.

Very pleased with it :)

The 300mm f/2.8 IS, a nice introduction to the L lenses at the time. If I was back with Canon I'd get the 200mm f/2.

70-200 F4L was my first L. It is absolutely awesome for the price. I still can't get over it. I've recently bought the 100mmL macro IS and that is also awesome.

I love L glass, and want more! All donations gratefully received :D

100 - 400mm IS, followed by 70-200 f2.8 IS, then a 500mm f4 IS and finaliy a 24-70mm f 2.8. The 100-400 is probably my most used lens, it's a great lens for sport.

I just picked up the same lens on Thursday, all I will say is wow... I heard the saying before, once you go L, you never look back :D

Very happy with mine.

My first 'L' lens was the 24-105mm f4 lens , amazing quality, then got the 70-200mm f 2.8 non IS followed by the 100-400mm.

Planning on the 16-35mm next for some close up shots when shooting downhill mountain bike races.

First was a 70-300L and I'm now hooked on L lenses. Money no object would be a 400/2.8 but a 300/2.8 would do (as if I'll ever afford one of those either!).

1st: 24-105L - didn't like it that much. Replaced it with 17-55 IS which is the best multi-purpose lens for a Canon crop.
2nd: 100-400L - good range and pretty sharp, but too big to lug everywhere.
3rd: 135L - lovely lens but pretty impractical unless you do studio work. Sold mine within a month.
4th: 70-200 F/4 IS - great lens, super sharp, good range, easy to carry, loved it.
5th: 70-300L - replaced both the 100-400 and 70-200 above. Great sharpness, great range, pretty compact. IMO Canon's best tele zoom.

In this order

16-35L - useful on crop as a general lens and nice and wide on FF
24-70L - enough said
135L - hard to take a bad picture with this but I don't use it enough
35L - best prime Canon makes IMO
85L - amazing piece of glass, sharp wide open and shame it's not as fast as other primes to focus

I also picked up the 45 TS/E today, the only lens I come across that's not a L but comes with a lens case (drawstring bag) and lens hood with the lens. I always thought it was a L thing.

28-300 IS. It was great till I realised how slow it was compared to a 70-200 IS. Got my money back on it selling it 17 months later.

And the winner is the 24-105!! Was offered one yesterday maybe I should get it!! Not wide enough though on a crop body!!
