Yes
After two years of being sensible I have the funds to replace my D40 that was destroyed when my car went up in flames. Budget is £1,000 so have plumped for the D7000 with 18-105, I still have my SB600 so that a keeper and my ML-13 (which I think is the best ever gadget a tog can ever have).

I had a Lowepro Flipside before and couldn't fault it (it kept the camera "safe" enough during the fire to get the SD Cards out) so that is on my shopping list, and speaking of which what are the SD Cards of choice at the moment?

What else you got in your kit bag to get my thinking juices going as I window shop?

i have cheap kit..

Lowepro bag no idea what one
Nikon D5100
18-55 VR
35mm 1.8
85mm 1.4
55-200mm VR(borrowed)
Sb400 flash
Remote

Depending on what I'm doing I've got some combination of the following;

Canon 5D Mk3
Canon 1Ds Mk2
Canon 1D Mk2

Canon 17-40 F4 L
Canon 24-105 F4 IS L
Canon 135mm F2 L
Canon 100-400 L
Canon 50mm 1.8
1.4 extender ii

Canon 430exii flash
Sunpak PF30X flash
Metz 45 flash

Lee filters (1,2,3 stop hard and soft edged grads, Big Stopper, 105mm CPL)

Again depending on what I'm doing they either go in a Peli 1600, a Lowepro Rolling Computrekker AW, a Tamrac Cyberpack 8, a Kata 467i, a Lowepro Classified 250AW or a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 400AW

Today in my pretty boy ... 40d, Canon17-40mm, Takumar 105mm, kit-kat chunky, Dime bar, packet of Rothmans and 2 elastic bands.

You're probably going to get so many lists of camera bodies and lenses that it makes your head hurt so I'll list the other things I've got in/attached to my bag - which is a Flipside 400AW as it happens.

Compass,
Two pieces of black craft foam for making flags/snoots for my flash,
Two ski straps, two nylon straps with buckles and two straps made from hook velcro tape attached to loop velcro tape for attaching things to other things (like foam to flashes),
Printed out guide numbers for my flash,
A carabiner so I can secure my camera's strap to my bag when carrying it over my shoulder,
A knee pad,
Op-tech rainsleeves,
A few sandwich bags for if I use my flash off-camera while it's raining,
Elastic bands for securing the rainsleeves and sandwich bags,
A Lastolite EzyBalance (grey card on one side and white on the other which can be used as a small reflector),
Several carrier bags.

In a second small shoulder bag I have some other stuff that I sometimes swap into my main bag depending on what I'm doing:
A big bounce card made from craft foam,
Olive drab scrim material for making the camera less visible to wildlife,
A flash meter (which also does ambient light, though not too well).

In my kit bag I have my Canon 550D (with 8GB Sandisk Extreme), Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 70-210, remote, and a bin bag (in case of rain). If I take my rucksack I also take my Canon 18-55is and Giottos Rocket air blower.

I also have a set of diffusers, a spare battery and a battery grip on order that will be attached to the camera. Looking at getting a Nissins flash and 55-250is also.

Only had the camera since mid/late March though so this will expand.

Do you think the filters add something or do you use them just to protect your glass?

In my little and ancient Lowepro, there lurks a Sony A700 with beercan 70 - 210 attached, beside it a 28 - 85 from the same era, and in the side pocket, a Super Takumar 135 3.5 (with adaptor) with 30mm extension tube, alloy lens hood and lenspen.

Good thinking;

Headtorch
Clip on LED torches, ideal to clip onto tripod
Spacepen (writes in wet) and paper
Kendal mintcake
Zippo handwarmer and lighter
cable ties
screwdriver (small one for Lee holders etc)
wrench for tightening Manfrotto tripod leg locks
lenscloths
microfibre towels ideal for wiping wet kit down, or using as a darkcloth
GPS logger on karabiner
AAA batteries for GPS logger
rocketblower for cleaning sand out of gear

Most of this kit stays in the car, when I am going to a location I try and travel relatively light, just packing a little bag or stuffing everything into my Gitzo Four Seasons Coat or fleece or Think Tank belt kit.

What's in my kit bag you say?

Nikon D700 & Nikon FG, Sony Nex 3 & 18-55

Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor, 50mm F/1.4D, 60mm Micro AF-D, 18-35mm AF-D, 70-300mm VR, Tokina 28mm F/2.8 RMC, Nikon 35mm F/2.5 Series E

Nikon SB900 & SB600 Flashguns, Nikon MB-D10, Yongnuo N-918 GPS, Lee Big Stopper, Lee 1-3 stop soft grads, Hitech 3 stop ND, remote releases, rocket blower, 2 Spare En-el3e batteries, 8 spare AA rechargeables, 13" MBP & power cable, AA charger, en-el3e charger, card reader, usb cable, 2.5" ext hdd, 2 small screwdrivers, allen key, misc spare lens and body caps, spare tripod plates.

I flip between about 4 bags depending on what I am doing and want to carry.

The UV filter is just there for protection, I asked a question on here a while back in relation to UV filters and most recommended not to use them as they can effect image quality, and to just use a hood as protection. I think they do a little but after my trip my lens had a fair few stains due to rain etc so I've added the UV filter on just to protect it.

I've purchased the ND filter and polariser through the classifieds on TP and I am just awaiting for delivery, from what I have seen on Flickr, 500PX they definitely do add to the image.

Have a look on Flickr, there are images which are simply unachievable without the use of an ND filter or a polariser. That is my understanding of it anyway.

Hope that helps a little.

With the exception of camera and lenses...

Spare batts
Spare CF cards
Lenspen
Microfibre cloth in a sealed plaggy bag
Nutrigrain bars plus some more Nutrigrain bars
Insulin pen
Sometimes a laptop & charger plus CF reader
Usually a monopod or tripod strapped to the outside
Notepad & pen
Spare lens caps
Compass

I have trimmed my kit down so much over the years to the point where I am finally happy with my setup.

Sigma 24-60 2.8

Rode Video Mic

Mini Vagabond powerpack

And in a shoulder sling...
Westcott Apollo 28" softbox
Westcott Apollo 40" softbox

Theres a bunch of memory cards, batteries and cleaning stuff too... but thats the just of it.

Thats my go to travel setup now

In (or attached to) my usual bag (lowepro fastpack 350)

Waterproof rucksac cover for the fastpack

Camera (50D),
wide angle lens (Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM)
Standard zoom (Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM)
long zoom (Sigma 150-500mm f/5.6-6.3 DG HSM OS)

Flash (Speedlite 550EX)

2 in 1 Collapsible Reflector - 32" - Silver & Gold

LED torch (Fenix L2D) - and a Fenix LD01 on the keyring - always handy.

Filters (Kood holder & selection of ND & ND grads + circular polarizer)

Cable release

Tripod (Velbon Sherpa 450R + Redsnapper RSH-12 ball-head)

Tripod QR plates on camera & long zoom lens

Hot-shoe spirit-level

Spare batteries (camera, flash & torch) & CF cards

Rocket blower, speck-grabber + microfibre lenscloth (bagged) & a few microfibre gp cloths

a selection of cinch straps and toeclip straps, a few feet of paracord, a few feet of duct tape wrapped around an old 'credit card' style bit of plastic, a leatherman, a pen & notepad.

Camera manual (there's always something that I can't remember how to do)

A copy of " The UK Photographers Rights Guide".

A pair of binoculars (Viking Navigator Binoculars 8x32)

I think that's the lot.

I sometimes leave a few bits at home depending on what I'm sure I won't use. I carried a grey white-balance card for a bit but I don't bother now (I shoot raw and if I feel the need, I'll use a bit of white paper or something else). A bit of closed-cell foam and/or carrier/bin bags for kneeling/sitting/laying on usually get shoved in too. Maps, books (e.g bird books), a compass, a GPS device sometimes get brought along too.
