Whats the thing with Nikon

Its all a bit of sillyness, although I have noticed that most of it on here (light hearted generally!) comes from the Nikon users! ;) Bless em! Mind you it wouldn't matter what make I had, I still am pretty rubbish at taking pictures!

But, the difference is motive.

Canon users sincerely believe they're destined to take over the world and are happy to shout it from the rooftops to every Nikon shooter who'll listen (and even some of those that won't).

Nikon users just think it's funny to wind up Canon users, and we really don't care what anybody shoots. :D

Take over the world? I have trouble ruling my own front room!
 
I buy Nikon cameras because they fit my lenses, I have had a go with Cannon but I don't look very pro like with your lens taped to your body with gaffer tape, the auto focus don't work, and some of them on shoot full stopped down.so Nikon it is for me.

I have a Nikon D200 & Canon G6 and i think you're absolutely right about the Canon/Nikon owners attitudes!
 
The Canon-Nikon rivalry began in 35mm film camera days. Nikon managed to virtually monopolise the professional market, backed by lens and accessory hire firms. Canon made an excellent professional camera in the F-1 but it never cracked the Nikon hegemony of food-on-the-table cameras.

Canon gave up that sector when it changed the lens mount, the photographic equivalent of sending up a white flag and rendering its (excellent) old lenses obsolete. Arguing over which is best now is as relevent as claiming racing heritage for your family saloon, the only lineage is a badge. Both companies turn out mass-market DSLRs with a fast upgrade programme (or planned obsolescence) while producing true professional models for those who can afford them, or write them off against tax.

Oh come on, there are "photographers" (?) with that mentality in both camps, along with many others who genuinely don't care what others are using and just concentrate on what suits them.

And us Olympus users? We don't care because we are told so often that our cameras are cr*p that we almost start to believe it. We do have the best glass by a country mile, though, which does help us feel just a little bit better. :D

Perhaps it was a little too subtle. My whole comment about Nikon owners doing it purely to wind up Canon owners was purely to wind up Canon owners.

Although, I guess it works on Olympus owners too. ;)

And they are still darn good cameras despite this. :p

One of the large format ride-on brigade claimed that his Honda had better low light performance because it produced less noise and got quite upset when he heard that I'd also cut my neighbour's lawn - apparently amateurs like me should stick to just mowing our own lawns for pleasure with our "toy" mowers and leave the paid jobs to the "real" gardeners like himself who had the professional equipment.

At that point I logged off and went out to cut my lawn for a while in the evening sunshine whilst I listened to the birds in the trees and watched the flowers gently waving in the breeze. To me, that's what gardening is all about - not what tools you use. I hate to think what they'll say on the forum when the find out I've bought a Spear and Jackson E-Series spade for my vegitable patch! :eek:

well what a post lol.im loving the Nikon by the way and arnt bothered what people say or point at..just wondering why nikon V canon..like everything else really. AMD or Intel....ATI or NVidia with pc's..thanx for all your posts..Im looking forward to nice summer to get out wit family and for takin some really nice photos.Ive learnt a lot already on here..some very wise people with lots of knowlegde and its a shame we can bottle it.:clap:
 
I have a lot of repsect for all photographers be it with canon or nikon or sony or whateva they have.its an art and a very nice hobbie all be it an expensive one.:bonk:

By the way my brother is looking at selling his sony for a canon.hmm but mine is bigger than yours ...is going to get said a few times im sure.:lol:

Exactly. Not just in photoghraphy, a lot of people just seem to feel the need to justify their gear purchases, and put down other peoples' equipment without having any knowledge of the equipment, the differences between them, or what may make one system better or more suited than another for a different task.

Sadly, many of them own Canons and Intel based Macs. ;)
 
Then there are people like me who have one brand because I can "borrow" (read steal) lenses from relatives. Although I used a 1D with an L-series lens a few weeks back and that was nice, but my little D5000 just felt more at home as has spent far more time in my hands.

Its all relative and reasons often go beyond which brand is ever so slightly technicaly better at any given point as to what people buy and use.

Now where can I get an E-Series spade. :lol:

anything from 2006 onwards then :lol:

but then you have the Mac OS looking windows 7 so its all much of a muchness :bonk:

I was in the pub a few evening ago and one of the local posers who is always flashing his cash started to take thr p*ss out of my Volkswagen Passat Estate. Apparently his new Ferrari was soooo much better. After a while I got fed up and challenged him to a race.

"You're on!" he cried.

O.K. I said, first one to get a familly of four and all the luggage for a fortnight's camping holiday to the Lake District wins......:lol:
 
As said, its the user not the equipment. I know some really good photographers who are 14-15, using the standard canon 400d/450d's who can reel off some pro quality shots. I also know of people who are pro or studying it in further education with amazing equipment, Nikon or Canon who cant perform consistently.. So don't get too worked up about brand labels, just ignore anyone who would challenge you on what you shoot with. If it gets you good results, then what's the problem with it? :)
 
When I researched the nikon/canon dslr I couldn't decide. Eventually got my hands on both together and the nikon fitted my hand better. I think the rivalry is a lack of confidence in their choice.
I wonder if nikon deliberately designed the D80 for people with sausages where their fingers normally are?

I am a Canon user, and have been for around 6 years now.
I have never owned or used a Nikon, so therefore I cannot possibly comment on their performance, quality or abilities as a camera, but from what I have seen on TP regarding forum members images I have been very impressed and cannot see a great deal of difference between Canon or Nikon.
So canon users, stop slagging off the Nikons and just get on with sharing your experiences with fellow CAMERA users.

I've owned 3 Nikons and on my 3rd Canon.

Who cares what other people think. As long as your happy with it and the photos it produces, that's all that matters

I use both, a canon every day at work, but it never detered me from buying a Nikon for pleasure. I must say that I prefer the Nikon personally, it just feels "right" in my hands and after owning my D40 for 18 months i must say.....

The canon is still a good camera, but i'd choose my Nikon any day ;)
