Yes
I'm having a few troubles taking photos of pretty much everything, i.e they never look as awesome as any of the ones i see on here or elsewhere..

Do you know right away once youve taken the picture if its going to be good, or can it transform totally once you edit it? Or should there be a good basis before any editing?

I think my one problem is lack of inspiration - i just need to get out there.. Ive been reading various tutorials and testing things but just cant get anything i think is good.

Im using a 500d and have the 18-55mm and 55-250.

Any tips please?

massive question this,

first off you cant make a bad picture good.

I pretty much know the types/compositions of shot I like to take, so when presented with a scene, I will look for those things I like IE landscapes leadin lines, and 3rds compositions, same applies to macro/product shots anything really

best thing is look at peoples images see what compositions are used, what View Points are taken, high/low

This is one reason why i have enrolled on a course at my local college. To learn the basics. To understand the camera and its settings. I thought it would be simple to just press the shutter button and a great pic would appear!! Wrong!

It takes patience and a good understanding of the art. This is why i need to get learning!

You can transform what is a flat dull image into something better, but you cant polish a turd.

It needs to have to have something to start with, the composition has to be right and the framing has to be right. It also needs a subject.

Prime example in this video.

Out of the camera RAW wasnt very good looks wise, but all the elemtents I wanted were there. Just needed a bit of a push in the right direction.

Concentrate on the composition and what the photo is aiming to convey and if you get that right, you should be able to salvage something out of it, even if your settings werent perfect.

Post some up and let us all have a look.

Oh and I think the turd polishing analogy is now dead,

mythbusters did actaully manage to polish some:)
