hey peeps im in a bit of a dilemma.

i need 4 GCSE's grade A*-C to get onto my BTEC photography course at college. now i am still at high school and am panicing because i need to fulfill them GCSE's in order to get to college and realised that really it is down to portfolio in the professional world but i still would like to go to college and at least learn something.

now my question is, even though i am quite confident of getting the grades required, is there another way of getting photographic qualifications that i could show to potential employers if i dont get my required GCSE's?

I did photography jobs for 10 years then got the bit of paper later..... Tricky one. As its different for everyone.
I did a HND in 1 year as ~I was working and did all my portfolio work from the lab I worked at. Skipped first year as they could tell that I already knew the history of and basics of Photography.

Depends on what you want to do working for someomne else?

It can be a case of being in the right place at the right time or who you know.........

i always think that the bit of paper is sort of a last resort for employers when they cant decide on who's portfolio is better. i have luckily found a certificate in photography level 1 that requires not qualifications and if i was to succeed i could level 2 and if that succeed then i could do level three that would allow me onto HND, so in other words there is another way around it, amazing!

Or the employer might look at proof of education first and portfolio second;) You seem confident of passing the GCSE's so go for it and get it done:lol: Seems easier than having to do three certificates and then the HNC.
Good Luck:thumbs:

do the best that you can in GCSE's, but I honestly wouldn't worry too much. Colleges can be really flexible, if you could show a genuine interest to them they might take you on if there's spare places anyway. photography jobs are all word of mouth anyway.

Generally most employers only even look at A*-C grades in gcse as it is and alot require english and maths as a basis so i wouldnt worry to much, keep working on a portfolio alongside the courses as well as trying to get some experience here and there
