Not sure if I have posted in the correct section with this one:shrug:.

Anyway, we have been given 2x first class travel rail tickets and are undecided where to travel to or whether we will have an overnight stay.

Mrs G has already said "mind this is not a trip for you to stop every 5 minutes taking photographs" :D. ..............but I will be:naughty:

She has suggested Glasgow so far, I do not want to travel to London.

Any suggestions for spending a day or so in a mainline rail city with plenty of photo opportunities in or nearby, and a few shops to keep Mrs G happy.

I will be travelling from Northumberland.

I would suggest York Mal. Lovely place, free railway museum, very photogenic city... has a reasonably priced PTI hotel very close to the city centre. Nice walk around the city walls... York Minster...

And failing that, what about Chester?

First Class on which form of transport mate?

Bath is a fantastic place to go, Canterbury, Oxford. Stratford (shakespear country).

Would be easier to suggest if we know how your getting there thats all.

I did mention that it had to be a mainline rail city but thanks for drawing my attention to it I will edit my post to mention by rail:thumbs:.

I should have put 2 & 2 togther! :bang:

What about Kendal or Penrith? Penrith is certainly on the East Coast Mainline.

Ill ask my fiance's parents tonight, they live in Haltwhistle so may have a few suggestions.

It depends if you want to stay over night, London is a 3 hr train ride, then another hour and you can get to brighton. I used to travel up to Frosterly (co Durham) on a Sat and go back late sunday before my fine lady moved in with me.

Your lady would love the North Leigns and you'd get loadsa togging opps in Brighton. May be a little far though i guess.

Mmm York would be nice, years since I was last there, I remember at the time there were quite a few street performers, is it still the same ?.
Has the Minster still got scaffolding attached to it?.

Edinburgh as you come out Waverly station the beloved has all of princess street to shop in and you got the, princess st gardens, castle, calton Hill, high street , and loads other places to snap at :)

Rob, thanks for the suggestions but Brighton would be too far I think and I do not want to have to go through London, Penrith/Kendal I can easily do by car.

Oxford, we go there every year for a week, Never been to Canterbury or Bath, Stratford, been there once for a "do" but did not go anywhere.
Would be nice but it all depends on suitable connections I suppose.

That it does.

I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever you end up.
