Which Canon lens for my 7D?

Do I buy the 24 70L or the 24 105L? Does one stop justify the extra £100? I only take general pictures rather than specialize in any one thing. My other lens is 70 200 2.8 L and the camera is a7D.
 
I went for the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Not much of a gap in the range to your zoom and long enough on a crop.
 
The problem I have found with non L series lenses is they have been too sticky when changing focal lengths. Ok for still photography but when using video and zooming in and out the slightest stickiness comes out on the final video. I tried three different 17 85 Canon lenses and ended up getting my money back.
 
It's a fantastic lens but I'd agree with it not being great if you want perfectly even zooming movement. It's almost like they built that in deliberately to differentiate to L's :-) Mine doesn't stick but it is tight in one place. I'm not enough into video to worry about it.

I didn't fancy the weight of the 24-70L at the time, plus wanted the 17 wide end.

So more a problem with the 17-85mm than all non L series lenses then, right?

FWIW the 17-85 is not smooth. Well mine wasn't anyway.
 
I like the 24-105. Doesn't give you a very wide short end, but covers a lot in a single sharp lens.

I have a 7D with 24-105 and 70-200. Bear in ming the 24-105 is IS, the 24-70 isn't - if this is an issue. Use the 24-105 for event photography with studio set-up with no problems at all and that extra bit of zoom is handy. Having said that, the 24-70 is an awesome lens. Other thing is price - 24-105 is a bit cheaper if you sniff around.

I decided to get the 24-105 for a walkabout lens on my 7D this time around.

Going to pair it with an UWA soon.
 
I haven't noticed any problems with the 17-55 (in fact it tends to zoom in if you hold the camera front down, so no stickyness there!) and it offers a good focal length on a zoom.

I think you will have to refocus just about any zoom when you move it from one focal length to another. I know they are all supposed to have a singal focus point throughout the range, but in my experience that's not generally the case (including my 70-200 f2.8 IS).
