Which crop do you prefer?

Hi - I am a relative beginner hence this question :)

I took a photo of my dad and one of my twins which he really likes and would like me to print for him. I have done two crops of the picture and would like to get your opinions on which one is better.

In the first crop the subjects feel like they are in the right place to me i.e. on the right side of the picture (since they are looking left). However, the edge of the sofa is distracting.

In the second crop the sofa is in the centre of the picture so is not as distracting as in the first crop. However the subjects are also smack bang in the middle of the picture and so the composition somehow feels wrong.

Which crop is better in your opinion?

Hi Trev - thanks for the welcome :) I have now inserted the pics in to the thread. Sorry for that.

Definately number one! Very nice capture.

Definitely No1. The composition works much better with them not sitting in the centre of the frame :)

Number 1 all the way..................

Welcome to TP Dub.
I am no expert, I only know what looks good to me. TBH I don't find the edge of the sofa that distracting, and number 1 looks the better balanced of the 2, so number 1 is my preference.

I prefer crop 1. I don't find the chair that distracting as by seeing the arm, it acts as an end stop to the composition and it obviously is the end of a chair. Whereas in crop 2 ,I find the ends of the chair to be more distracting because my eye is drawn to the edge of the frame trying to work out if is it a chair or a 2 - seater sofa. Also crop 1 seems to give more of an angle to the bodies.

Wow - fast responses!!! Thanks guys :) I will get printing and my dad will be happy!

no 1
dont centralise subject if possible
your shot is very good and is nearly on the 1/3's for the bulk of the subject grouping
cheers
