i have a minolta 7xi **** i rarely use.i have now decided to learn how to use it more ,although it is a film camera.i want to buy some filters for this camera and my question is do i buy cokin or hoya or are they much the same.
The main difference is the Hoya are round individual screw-fit, and Cokin are square slot-in with a holder to use multiple filters. B+W are similar to Hoya in this respect, and Lee, Hitech and Kood are other square systems, mostly interchangeable.
If you want to play around with various filters without spending too much, get a Cokin system holder and adapter for you lens, plus Cokin/Kood/Hitech filters. If you want just one like a polariser or dark ND, get screw-in.
Only filters worth buying are ND, Polarizor, if film camera a UV, if shooting B&W some colours, If shooting in artificial light some adjustment filters and if you haven't got a darkroom, a couple of grads, oh, btw some +1, +2 etc If you want cheap close up. When you switch to your next camera, will all the screw in's fit your next lens?
