Hi. I am going to need a rolling case for my kit, I can't lug it around in a backpack any more.
Was thinking of a Peli 1510 (Nigpd?)
My usual kit consists of:
1dMk3
50D
70-200mm IS
10-22 mm
small tripod
Remote triggers
Batteries
Sometimes flash guns (x2)
Rain covers

Do you think the one with dividers will cope with all that?
Many thanks in advance :)

Hi Carol

The 1510 may be overkill for your list, but I bought mine so I could put everything in that I need pitchside. I am not a fan of separate bags for laptops or having to carry my seat or monopod separately. So, this is what goes in my 1510

2 x 1Dx
400 f2.8
70-200 f2.8
24-70 f2.8
1.4x extender
monopod
bag of bits (spare batteries, cards, card reader, wifi dongle, lens cleaning cloth etc etc)
Dell 14" laptop
Think Tank Hydrophobia rain covers for the 400 and 70-200
Waterproof overtrousers and jacket
Gelert stool

I have the dividers rather than the foam and have taken out the foam in the lid because the waterproofs provide enough cushioning

I think Gary has a 1510 too

Thanks for the responses. I'm inclined to look at the 1510, having read your posts. Any suggestions of where to get a good deal on one?

Thanks, Nig. I came across them. Will give them a try. :)

I use a 1560 Carol. I have the padding in the lid too so there is a bit more space. I have the separators instead of foam cutouts in the bottom.
It allows me to carry 400 2.8, 70-200, 24-70, 16-35, 2of 600ex-rt flash guns and 2 cp-e4 battery packs along with spare batteries etc etc. Its on wheels so easy to move over road and path but when its wet and the pitches are soft I need to carry it. I forgot to add 2 1D sized bodies.

Thanks, everyone. I decided on a 1510, I think, judging from what you've all said, that it will fit my gear, plus my 24-70 and 20D body too, plus 2 flashguns. I don't take all that stuff everywhere, though, and I also have an old flight case that stores a lot of stuff in at home. The 1560 just seems a bit too big and expensive. Can't see me acquiring a 400mm anytime soon!
I think for travelling, esp on the team coach, being able to stow it with the rest of the gear rather than lug my backpack and extra bag on board will be so much easier.

Have you seen the maplin cases
I fitted a 5dmkii with 16-35 a 7d with 50mm 1.8 a 300mm f4 is and a 70-200mm f4 plus a small peli case with remote in it

I've recently invested in a 1560 as there was some new ones Ebay for £ 115, but it was empty - actually it contained foam precut for a piece of scientific apparatus, but was new and unused.

I considered making (or persuading mrs C) to make some dividers as its only nylon covered foam and some velcro, but ended up buying a set of dividers from case-depot.co.uk which appears to be Jitpak under a different name (cheaper though). The package was drop shipped directly from Peli UK in a huge box.

I chose dividers over pick and pluck foam as I thought it would give me greater flexibility in the future, and I've heard stories of either the foam breaking down causing a dust issue or losing its springiness.

At the moment I'm using the egg-carton foam in the lid.

I think the 1510 is the largest that you can take on as hand luggage on an aeroplane. Anything bigger has to go in the hold.

One reason for choosing the 1560 was that the additional space would permit me to carry bodies with lenses attached rather than bodies and lenses separately.

I was going to ask the same question Carol.

Not sure if I would be better off with the 1560 or 1510. Two 1D MkIII bodies, 300mm lens, 70-200mm lens, 24-70mm lens a couple of flashes and the usual cold/wet weather gear & odds and sods.

Ive got the 1610 which takes

2 X D3S
1 X Gripped D800
1 x 400mm F/2.8 with a 1.4x convertor and with hood attached in shooting position
1 x 70-200mm f/2.8
1 x 24-70mm f/2.8
1 x 28-70mm f/2.8
1 x 16-35mm f/4 VR
1 x 50mm f/1.8 AF-D
2 x 1.4x Converters
1 x 1.7x converter
1 x SB-600 flash
1 x Dell E6500 Latitute 15.4 inch laptop
4 x spare D3 batteries
2 x Latitude E6500 spare batteries
2 x Nikon D800 spare batteries
1 x Gerert relax stool
1 x Manfrotto 681B Monopod
1 x Cree bulb 1800 lumen torch
Think Tank Hydrophobia for the D3S/400mm
Home made cover for the D3S/70-200mm
Waterproof jacket
Waterproof trousers
Bag of bits including 2 x USB Card readers, 2 x mini mice, home made velcro mouse mat, spare flash cards, spare AA batteries, 2 x dongles on same network
4 x micro fibre 12x12 inch cloths

Could if needed get another 3-4 lenses or 2 more bodies if i reversed the 400mm lens hood and more room if i stood the 70-200mm on its end but i lay it down.

Gary, I'd really like to see how you have organised your 1610. How Ive got my kit arranged, it just goes in, so I can't be making best use of the space. You must be really organised

Crikey, Gary, you get the kitchen sink in too!
I ordered from Jitpak. After I placed the order they rang to say they didn't have any dividers in stock, and offered either the foam or a backorder. I opted for backorder, and they said they didn't know when they would come in, but probably next week.
This morning, the 1510 arrived with the dividers.
Excellent service. Now all I have to do is muck about finding the best place for everything.

Here ya go

Obviously loads more room if i reverse the lens hood and take off the TC

Gee, I'm struggling trying to fit my stuff in, 1Dmk3, 70-200, 50d + 10-22, tripod, batteries, covers, waterproofs, hiviz. Am I doing something wrong? It weighs a fair bit with just that. Mind you, if I didn't need the little tripod, I could get the 24-70 and flash gun(s) in.

Hi Carol

I pack the 1510 in the following way

photo_zps148f5100.jpg

top is laptop and charger

then 300mm with hood reversed and two bodies

the front row is 17-55 with hood reversed and then the 70-200 hood on top, the next part I keep empty but can put a flash in there. the bottom is then 70-200 with space for flash on top aswell if I need to carry them

Cheers, Steven. I'll experiment a bit. Thanks.

What Think Tank have you got instead Steven?

Airport Security

Wanted something bigger as I used another case to carry things like waterproofs, sun shade, card readers and the like. This gives plenty of space
