I'm currently in the process of reviewing my lens line-up for landscape use having just purchased a couple of primes...which of these 2 options would you prefer:

option 1. 12-24 zoom + 17-70 zoom

option 2. 12-24 zoom + 35mm prime + 50mm prime

Option 1 for me - I have both the 35 and 50mm primes and find that that 50 rarely gets used as it is so close to the 35.

The 17-70 is a good range.

But if you are shooting more than landscapes, the 35mm is well worth having.

Option 1 for me also as it's close to my 14mm and 24-70mm set up, very happy with it indeed.

Had option 1 when i had a 40D + 50D a very versatile setup before i went full frame

The Sigma 17-70 was used most of the time, a cracking lens for the money

To be honest I deliberately didn't mention one as I'm more interested in the lens choice, the body isn't really important

It is ............... full frame v cropped frame ..... makes a hell of a difference :bonk:

Of course it is:

12-24mm on ff gives an angle of view of 12-24mm
12-24mm on 1.3x (actually 1.25) crop gives angle of view of 15-30mm
12-24mm on 1.6x crop gives angle of view of 19-38

Seems mightly relevant to me :bang:

Both have their merits, option 1 will be more flexible, option 2 would resolve sharper images and IQ with good quality primes than a 17-70 sigma zoom.

I wouldn't really see the point of fast glass for landscapes and go mainly for anything that would offer the greater range for the least amount of changing lenses.

after all, if its low light, you just whack it on a tripod.

As for the body, I don't think it would be relevant for the question as long as you consider each option for just one body type. It's not like Simon is asking you to compare option 1 on a FF and option 2 on a Crop is it?
